Due to the growth of our business and an expanded portfolio of projects, an exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated Senior Engineer (Rail Communication & Control Systems) to join our team.

 

As part of the Transport and Resources team, this role covers a broad range of skills relating to rail communication and control systems.  The primary focus of this role is to contribute to developing the Communication and Control Systems project portfolio services of our business, supporting our clients and building a profitable Transport and Resources team.  

 

The Senior Engineer (Rail Communications & Control Systems) will undertake design, project management and consulting services within rail communication and controls systems, in order to enhance the team’s portfolio of skills and expertise.  In addition, the successful candidate will: 

 

  • Manage and deliver a high quality and committed project delivery service to clients
  • Carry out the following without supervision:
    • Develop strategy, system requirements documentation
    • Understand and meet the terms of client briefing material
    • Develop effective design drawings and documentation
    • Co-ordination of designs with architectural packages and other engineering disciplines, including input to multi-disciplinary co-ordination exercises.
  • Development of contract documentation, systems schematics, layout plans and technical specifications for tendering and construction packages. Develop client relationships to understand their needs through discussion, research and understanding. 
  • Developing and enhancing relationships with clients through project delivery
  • Perform a variety of roles including strategic advice and technical consultancy
  • To act as a local leader / expert in key areas of Rail Communication and Control Systems
  • Support bidding and business development activities
  • Involvement in a wide range of projects across business areas, and the wider Arup network, including overseas

 

You will have demonstrated:

 

  • Degree in Electrical or relevant Degree / Discipline
  • Minimum 5 - 10 year’s relevant experience in Communication and Control Systems in a consultancy or public sector environment
  • Good understanding of supporting bidding and business development activities
  • Commitment to continuous professional development, including development of skills in integration of rail communications and other communication systems into wider mobility solutions
  • Good understanding and experience the following areas:
    • Backbone data / transmission systems
    • Radio and wireless systems
    • Control systems
    • Buildings and station systems
    • Security systems
    • Trainborne Systems
  • Project management experience
  • Actively seeks to comply with safety issues, regulations and Health and Safety in Design practices. Promotes a safety culture via strong leadership and helps build safety competencies amongst colleagues
  • Broad experience in delivering complex Communication and Control system projects in the rail environment from feasibility through to detailed design and implementation.

 

With recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical or relevant fields or similar, you will be able to demonstrate your experience in design, project management and implementation in your field, within a consulting business environment.  

 

You will possess demonstrated excellent attention to detail along with high-level verbal and written communication skills.  Additionally, you will have proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines.  The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential. 

 

Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies or significant credit towards eligibility for membership will be highly regarded.
