The CPB Samsung John Holland (CSJ) joint venture is currently delivering the $2.7bn WestConnex M4 East (WCXM4E) project. As part of a broader scheme to connect Sydney's west with the airport and Port Botany precincts, construction of the WCXM4E will join the M4 Widening at Homebush Bay Drive and provide a 5.5km tunnel from the M4 at North Strathfield to Parramatta Road and the City West Link.

The WCXM4E project scope includes:

  • Twin tunnels with 3 lanes in each direction, spanning 5.5km in length
  • On and off ramps at the M4 Motorway at Homebush, Concord Road at North Strathfield, Parramatta Road at Haberfield, and City West Link at Haberfield
  • Surface road improvements including Patterson St, Concord, and Wattle St at Haberfield
  • Future proofing with the provision for stage three (Haberfield to St Peters) ramps on Wattle Street

In line with the above scope and continuation of construction activities, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Safety Advisor to join the Safety Team to support the Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) team.

This role will coordinate and provide day to day specialist support to internal stakeholders including the Safety Director, Project Manager, M&E Surface & Buildings Manager, employees, subcontractors, client and visitors, to ensure that they understand and have the appropriate tools to meet the health and, safety management system and legal obligations associated with delivering safe production.

This role will be responsible for the following:

  • Provide safety expertise, identify, communicate and ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory and project system requirements;
  • Monitor the performance and lead the coordination, support and development of M&E and safety professionals;
  • Manage and ensure the adequate implementation and effectiveness for workplace registers, closing out corrective actions, completion or project packs and version control;
  • Undertake ongoing review of project safety performance with a view to identifying trends, capturing and communicating key learnings and establish continuous improvement;
  • Participate in and ensure that the workplace maintains a disciplined, robust quantitative and qualitative risk management processes, associated with safety, develop monitoring of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects works;
  • Assign, conduct and interpret audits, inspections, observations and reviews of all works, but with particular focus on High Risk Construction Activities, the project’s safety culture framework and works associated with Safety Permits, utilising appropriate systems and procedure tools;
  • Ensure that workplaces are implementing consistent processes that allow for effective assessment and administration for consultants subcontract, service and supplier safety performance;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of  strategies and initiatives across the  workplace to drive improvements in safety performance and culture;
  • Maintain regular visibility across the workplace, build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, provide specialist safety knowledge and expertise, influence and coach all project personnel with respect to all safety matters including Safety Leadership;
  • Compliance with records and document management requirements;
  • Incident management including attendance at site as required, reporting involving multiple internal and external parties, and entering and extraction of data from incident management system;
  • Participate and monitor the effectiveness of the workplace consultative framework (including committees, HSMA,DWGs and HSR’s);
  • Prepare or review reports as required;
  • In consultation with Project Managers and Training Manager identify key areas for safety training throughout the M&E phase; and
  • Ensure all procedures and processes are adequately implemented and managed on the project.

To be considered you will have;

  • Degree in WHS or similar tertiary qualification;
  • Minimum of 5-7 years' experience in a safety role
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all WHS legislation and compliance requirements;
  • Strong commitment to promoting and delivering a positive safety culture;
  • Experience on M&E or transport infrastructure projects preferred;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
