PIC are currently recruiting for a Junior Quantity Surveyor to join our team based at our Head Office at the Naval Base. Reporting to the Contracts Manager, this role will be responsible for managing and minimising all material and labour costs relating to a given project, from the initial calculations to the final figures while still achieving the required standards and quality and maximising revenue return and recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitoring construction and fabrication progress against planned expenditure
- Assessing capital and revenue expenditure over the whole life of a Project.
- Preparing and submitting progress report for internal and external in relation to areas such as cost of preliminaries, comparative cost of different construction techniques, cash flow forecast, construction budget, cost/value reconciliation report, including a cost to completion review and forecast of a final account
- Providing advice on the avoidance and settlement of disputes
- Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of materials;
- Preparing costs for and undertaking costs analysis of structural, mechanical and piping fabrication and site erection projects;
- Assisting in establishing a client’s requirements and undertaking feasibility studies;
- Performing risk and value management and cost control;
- Advising on procurement strategy;
- Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks;
- Preparing and analysing costings for tenders;
- Allocating work to sub-contractors;
- Providing advice on contractual claims;
- Regular monitoring and reporting on cashflow and profitability.
- Valuing completed work and arranging progress payments; valuing change, assessing or compiling claims for loss and expense and agreeing final accounts
- Identifying variations, valuation and submission of variations;
- Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations.
Key Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Civil or Construction Engineering
- Previous fabrication and construction experience preferred
- The ability to understand construction plans
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills in order to communicate with employees, sub-contractors and the client
- Business acumen and strong computer literacy
