Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) is a multi-award winning organisation and we pride ourselves on our team of high performing professionals who are talented, inclusive and safety focused.

We are currently seeking a Supervisor – Track and Structures for work on our Level Crossing Removal Project. This large-scale project will benefit train users, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers by improving safety, reducing congestion and enabling more frequent train services.

In this role, you will oversee and provide direction to a technical stream of infrastructure resources that are dedicated to working on MTM Projects. 

Accountabilities:

• Provide day to day management of work crews within allocated stream, including resolving basic IR issues, resolving on-site construction and access issues, and safety reporting and recording.
• Work with allocation officers to ensure rostered shifts are appropriately resourced.
• Resolve resource issues and coordinate with infrastructure where resource shortage is identified.
• Attend occupation meetings with alliances to ensure infrastructure team interests are represented and requirements communicated.
• Review documentation and ensure work methodologies apply.
• Ensure staff timesheets are completed, correct and collated against appropriate work orders.
• Provide leadership with regard to safety and ensure leaders are modelling appropriate safety behaviours.
• Provide regular reports on delivery progress to leadership team members.
• Monitor resource recruitment plans and participate in the recruitment of staff where needed.
• Ensure that required training and development is completed so employees maintain appropriate competency.

To be successful in the role, your previous experience will include:

• Relevant competencies/qualifications/tickets to perform work within the rail corridor.
• Previous experience in performing and/or managing track and structures work in a rail environment.
• Experience managing staff of different disciplines and prioritising work loads
• Experience and understanding of design and as built drawings.
• Knowledge of appropriate standards.
• Extensive background in the delivery of rail infrastructure works and a strong, in-depth technical understanding of the allocated stream of work (i.e. signalling, overhead, track).
• Ability to interpret and advise on standard EBA provisions, including working closely with workplace relations professionals.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve technical issues within allocated stream and provide guidance to others.
• Ability to achieve required standards of quality & efficiency.
• In-depth understanding of the rail network, MTM’s role as rail operator, rail access & occupation requirements.
• Demonstrated track record of building a safety culture and developing and adhering to safety guidelines and principles.
• Strong people management skills with the ability to provide direction and coaching to a broad range of individuals.
• Ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders with MTM and across industry.
• Excellent communication skills with ability to effectively engage and collaborate with people at all organisational levels.
• Strong resilience in handling a range of issues within a challenging environment.
