The Crew Leader (Parks Construction) will contribute to implementing a holistic program of change across Infrastructure and Operations Division in collaboration with the section leadership team and in consultation with the Townsville community. This will involve leading the Park Open Space and Environment Team on a transformative journey focusing on the needs and aspirations of the Townsville community developing a culture of customer-centricity and personal accountability; and reshaping how we deliver services to maximise value.

Townsville City Council’s Parks Construction team plays an integral role in delivering a diverse range of park and open space assets across the city. The position of Crew Leader (Parks Construction) forms part of a small but dedicated team responsible for ensuring these assets are delivered to the required quality standards, on time and within budget. 

To be successful at the role you will be experienced in leading personnel in the installation of park and open space infrastructure in a way that supports, motivates and inspires individual and team achievements.  

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Certificate III in Civil Construction or significant experience in managing on-ground operational crews in the delivery of parks construction.
  • Demonstrated experience of conducting basic survey and set out tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience in concrete laying and finishing.
  • Detailed knowledge of construction materials and their application.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of Quality Assurance processes, in a civil construction environment.
  • Sound working knowledge of the Workplace Health & Safety Act and its application.
  • A high level of oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively and professionally engage with and influence others.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain working relationships with staff and contractors as well as a range of internal and external.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to develop and maintain both internal and external work relationships.
  • Sound problem solving skills with the ability to achieve creative, effective and efficient solutions to challenges and changes.
  • Certifications as listed in the Position Description, including a  Current Queensland ‘C’ Class Licence and  ‘MR’ Class Licence.
