Victorian Operations Manager

Well-established NSW contractor with a national client base is seeking a manager with residential construction experience to further establish and run their Victorian operation. This is a great opportunity for a self-motivated and results focused person to get in on the ground floor and grow this part of the business with promotional opportunities as the business grows. Based in Melbourne and well supported by the Sydney Head Office in sales, administration and operations support, this is an autonomous role where you will be working with Tier 1 and 2 builders to project manage critical path construction elements of their builds. This role is part of the senior management team and presents an excellent opportunity to take charge of your career and align yourself with an ethical and expanding company.

Job tasks and responsibilities

Reporting to the General Manager you will be overseeing key elements of fast-paced residential projects, building a loyal sub-contractor and employee supervisor workforce and ensuring construction is carried out within the company's and relevant statutory safety and quality standards, as well as set time-frames. This is a customer facing role where you will be in regular communication with customer site supervisors and construction managers in order to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business. You will also be responsible for negotiating and managing the efficient supply of labour, materials, quality, costs, scheduling and instilling a culture of safety at all times. You will be part of and work closely with the senior management team to take the Empower Construction culture interstate and build on our current brand reputation with existing national clients and to grow new business.

Skills and experience

  • Must have right to work in Australia

  • Minimum of 10 years as a Construction/ Trade Supervisor within the Victorian residential construction environment

  • Trade qualification – bricklaying or carpentry (preferred)

  • Cert IV in Building and Construction or above (preferred)

  • Able to quickly read building plans

  • Understanding of acceptable standards to guides and tolerances in building

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to time manage, problem solve & meet deadlines

  • Delivering weekly $ targets

  • Working to budget and understanding cost drivers

  • Managing work sites through various electronic means including job management software

  • Proactively schedule and forecast work activities in advance

  • Reporting to General Manager/ senior management team on a weekly basis and in quarterly review/ planning meetings

  • Conducting routine site inspections ensuring quality standards are maintained

  • Provide a high level of face to face customer service at all times, managing client expectations

  • Ability to take ownership and grow the business

  • Maintain all necessary WHS risk assessments to site

  • Be easy going with a positive attitude

  • Excellent customer service and be well presented

  • Drivers Licence

  • Right to live and work in Australia

  • Be physically fit to fulfil the requirements of the role

  • Must be able to provide two current references
