Opportunity
Do you feel there is more to investing than benchmarks, tracking error, peer group surveys and short-term returns?
Have you a desire to focus on meaningful investment objectives and help clients achieve security in their investment journey?
Do you want to apply your knowledge and experience in a collaborative team-based environment to focus on best ideas, forget traditional benchmarks and manage total risk with specific responsibility supporting an ASX mid-caps sub-portfolio manager (ASX200 ex-ASX50 universe) within a broader value-based absolute return Australian equity team?
Company
An established Sydney-based asset manager is on a journey from boutique fund manager to boutique wealth manager and is seeking an Australian Equity Investment Analyst to join the broader Investment Team. Your primary responsibilities will be identifying undervalued, high quality businesses within the ASX Mid Cap investment universe (ASX200 ex ASX50) to consistently achieve / exceed CPI + 8% p.a. via a balance of some yield and solid capital growth.
You will be an integral part of the broader team, consistently delivering strong-risk adjusted returns across large, mid & small cap and all-cap conviction strategies - and will report to the ASX mid cap portfolio manager.
Investment Team
You will be expected to make a valuable contribution to the Investment Team both individually and as part of a high performing group. You will have the ability to evolve the value-based investment process and decision-making framework.
As part of this group you will be part of fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, soliciting feedback and achieving results.
About the Role
Once established in the Investment Team, you will have responsibilities researching investment opportunities within the Mid Cap sub-portfolio (ASX200 ex ASX50 universe) as well as working collaboratively identifying and developing select Large Cap (ASX50 universe) and Small Cap (ex-ASX200 universe) investment theses. The mid-cap sub-portfolio is one of three underpinning the Australian Growth Equity strategies.
You will assist in co-ordinating regular Mid Cap sub-portfolio meetings and work within the Investment Team to develop investment ideas, engage with company management teams, build out investment theses and ultimately present compelling opportunities to the Investment Committee. Collaboration, sharing ideas and soliciting feedback are part of this role and the organisation’s culture.
Aligned with your generalist sector background, experience and skill-set, you will support selective large and small cap investment ideas and collaboratively develop and build out investment theses within the broader Investment Team.
You will produce written recommendations, opinion pieces and company updates along with internal and external collateral materials (including short videos).
You will support the asset manager’s valuation framework, with a particular focus on Mid Cap sub-portfolio positions held and tier one qualified universe names.
About You
You will ideally have 3 to 5 years of relevant investment experience gained within a fund manager or investment bank. Previous experience working within an investment team is a pre-requisite.
Strong financial modelling, company valuation skills and experience are essential to the role.
In addition to an undergraduate qualification in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, Economics, Mathematics or Actuarial Studies, you will also have or be working towards a CFA, Chartered Accountant or MBA qualification.
You must be able to demonstrate a natural ability, enduring passion and strong pedigree in stock selection. A sound understanding of global and macroeconomic influences on ASX listed companies is also expected.
You will need strong interpersonal and leadership skills, the ability to foster genuine relationships and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Only candidates with full Australian working rights should apply for this position.
