The Business Risk Manager is responsible for managing and implementing the risk framework in line with guidance from the MLC Life Risk function and the Retail Advised Insurance (RAI) strategy, and to facilitate a culture that encourages and supports open risk identification and management.
Specific responsibilities and duties of the role:
- Understand, champion and implement the MLC Life Risk framework within RAI that meets all regulatory requirements and enables customer and adviser focused business initiatives to be achieved.
- Support and embed a culture of strong risk management within RAI, and build awareness of risks and provide training and guidance on effective risk management;
- Maintain and regularly review the RAI risk profile in line with industry, regulatory, competitive and internal changes
- Provide representation and advice at relevant business forums and support the RALT in effective risk-based decision making
- Facilitate the RAI Risk Management Forums including analysis of the available risk management information to enable sharing of meaningful insights, provide a trend and root cause analysis, and recommended action
- Develop and maintain a register of RAI legislative and product obligations and relevant processes and controls
- Regular review and testing of RAI processes and controls to determine effectiveness and/or identify process and control deficiencies (and implement corrective actions to address) and facilitate required attestations
- Oversight of all RAI Events to ensure timely and accurate closure of all actions and remediation/rectification activities.
- Review all RAI Events for impact on the control environment, risk profile and compliance plan.
- Facilitate the transition and monitoring of delivered risks into Retail Advised for RAI BAU projects or key change activities
- Undertake RAI business impact assessments of proposed or impending regulatory change and assist with the preparation of relevant submissions
- Oversight of all RAI Audit items to ensure timely and effective closure.
- Facilitate exception reporting on employee compliance such as mandatory training and gifts & entertainment register.
- Degree qualifications in a business related field including finance, marketing, legal or financial planning highly regarded
- Prior experience in risk management or compliance role
- RG146 qualification or a willingness to obtain
- Strong knowledge of the insurance regulatory environment including the Life Insurance Framework and FSC Code of Practice
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Expert interpersonal skills to influence stakeholders and resolve issues
- Ability to apply pragmatism and thinking from a commercial perspective.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and autonomously, in order to achieve planned goals and objectives
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure whilst continuing to make effective decisions
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
