The Role

The Data Science team is tasked with balancing business insight, acumen and analytics to develop insights that informs business thinking and develops intellectual property to move the business forward.

You must thrive in an ambiguous environment that typically accompanies an enterprise going through a large scale multi-year merger program, and be up for the challenge of creating structure where it might not yet exist.

Responsibilities

• You will be an individual contributor- working on building the data science products and solutions from the ground-up as well as researching ways to improve the business
• You will be building algorithms and machine learning models and the corresponding infrastructure
• Take practical, real world problems and opportunities and solve them with algorithms or Machine Learning methods that drive measurable improvements in business performance and outcomes
• Work in partnership with internal SMEs, data analysts and data architects, to create predictive analytics offerings based on available datasets, using machine learning methodologies and tools.
• Select features, building and optimising classifiers using machine learning techniques
• Data mine using state-of-the-art methods
• Extend the company’s data with third party sources of information when needed
• Enhance data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems
• Process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis
• Perform ad-hoc data analysis and present results in a clear manner
• Create automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance
• Work with internal colleagues to provide subject-matter expertise and thought leadership on predictive analytics
• Regularly build out of Proofs of Concept based on available data sets and the selected machine learning tools

Experience

Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Math, Statistics or Quantitative Science

• 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist in a corporate environment leading, building and delivering data science products and solutions especially in applying Machine Learning techniques, advanced analytics and statistical modeling
• Deep understanding of modern machine learning techniques and their mathematical underpinning, such as classification, recommendation systems and natural language processing
• Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.
• Experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, Python, Weka, NumPy, MatLab, etc. Excellence in at least one or two of these is highly desirable
• Experience with data visualisation tools, such as D3.js, GGplot, Tableau, Qlik View, etc.
• Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL, Hive, Pig
• Experience with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, Cassandra, HBase
• Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
