About the business

Thrive is a not-for-profit organisation established to help refugees make a meaningful economic contribution to Australia. Its primary role is to help refugees and eligible asylum seekers start viable businesses by providing them financing and business support.

About the role

Attractively paid, this is a client-facing position with its focus on working with applicants of Thrive in preparing and analysis of their business plans, cashflow statements, and providing them overall business support. Part of the SBAM's role entails business development responsibilities. The SBAM also on-boards volunteers and external organisations that assist in pre and post loan business support and mentoring. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assessing applicants' eligibility for Thrive services according to Thrive policies.
  • Providing support in the form of preparation and analysis of Business Plans and Cash Flow statements.
  • Recommending for loan after thorough due diligence using Thrive policies and procedures.
  • Business development and onboarding refugee applicants.
  • Identifying and onboarding Volunteers to help refugee business owners with business plan preparation.

Skills and experience

  • Must have worked in a banking or microfinance organisation for at least one year in lending capacity.
  • Must be able to adhere to professional standards and work with people of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) background.
  • Ability to speak Persian and Urdu languages would be advantageous (Arabic would be a plus).
  • Highly energetic and able to process applications methodologically at a fast pace.
  • Practical experience of working with or in small business or detailed knowledge of.
  • Experience in development of business plans and cashflow statements (highly desirable).
  • Previous lending experience to small businesses (highly desirable).
  • Sales experience (highly desirable).
  • Excellent communication skills.
