About the Role:

The Taxation Adviser’s role is to provide tax advisory services to the business on corporate taxes including business transactions, supporting emerging and expansion projects and merger and acquisition activities.

In addition the role will ensure timely compliance with corporate tax & Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT) obligations.

This is a permanent opportunity to join our tax team based in our Perth head office.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the design, implementation and integration of new tax systems and processes.
  • Provide assistance to exploration, development, commercial and legal functions in relation to new and existing ventures
  • Lead tax function improvement/teaming initiatives
  • Assist with tax advocacy/transparency initiatives
  • Provide timely advice to the Tax Manager in relation to key changes in tax laws in Australia and for foreign operations where relevant
  • Prepare annual and monthly corporate tax filings (e.g. income tax returns, withholding tax) for Australian operations
  • Prepare monthly and annual tax filings for foreign operations in conjunction with in-country external tax advisers
  • Assist with tax estimate calculations for the year-end and half year reporting periods
  • Coordinate payment of tax liabilities
Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum BA in Accounting, Finance or related tertiary qualification
  • Completed postgraduate qualification (CA, CPA or Masters of Tax)
  • Previous experience in corporate tax advisory and compliance matters, gained from within a multinational corporation or chartered/legal firm
  • Experience in tax-effect accounting (AASB 112) will be an advantage
  • Experience in the petroleum industry or with PRRT will be an advantage
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships both internally and externally
  • Strong ability to communicate issues / risks in a clear and articulate manner
  • Attention to detail in preparing accurate tax forms/returns/work papers
