The Organisation

John Paul Village is a residential aged care facility and retirement village located at Heathcote, NSW. John Paul Village offers 166 Independent Living Units, 171 residential beds and home care services. Our aim is to provide a happy and secure environment and respond to individual needs by developing specialised and innovative support and care services which promote a sense of community, choice, dignity, independence and quality of life.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Accountant will oversee all financial and accounting operations and is responsible for asset management. You will also be responsible for contracts and documentation of new admissions to the Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF), community aged care packages and other retirement villages managed by John Paul Village, ensuring they are documented and accounted correctly.  This role is a full-time position.

Some of the responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Managing general ledger and daily processes, plus month-end processes
  • Preparing and implementing annual budgets and forecasts
  • Preparing and signoff of annual audits
  • Management of the fixed asset register and purchase of capital equipment
  • Monthly management reporting, including variance analysis
  • All statutory requirements (e.g. payroll tax, BAS, IAS, FBT, income tax, superannuation, ASIC, department statistics, financial statements, ACNC)
  • Maintaining contractual arrangements with suppliers
  • Maintaining relevant documentation, including from the Department of Health & Ageing
  • Providing guidance to staff and prospective RACF residents on fees and contractual arrangements in the RACF
  • Ensuring all RACF admission documentation is completed appropriately
  • Facilitating payments of bonds and deposits ensuring accommodation bonds and RADs are entered correctly with retentions deducted
  • Working closely with relevant managers to ensure compliance with legislative requirements, including home care and self care compliance
  • Offering guidance and support to Accounts Officers

You will work with multiple groups of interested parties during the scope of work performed. These include working closely with the other directors and senior managers. You will also work closely with all direct reports, as well as other departments within the Village. External contacts will include suppliers of goods and services, as well as customers, clients, and government and regulatory bodies.

Key Requirements

Ideally you will possess the following knowledge, experience and qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years industry experience in not-for-profit sector
  • Bachelor degree in a discipline relevant to the role
  • Ability to communicate clearly through verbal and written communication
  • Computer literacy across various platforms including Attaché and Microsoft Office.  
  • Willingness to respect and uphold the ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church and the philosophy of John Paul Village

Desirable criteria:

  • Relevant Masters degree
  • CA or CPA qualification
  • Experience in managing finances in an aged care facility
