The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Officer to ensure the accurate maintenance and timely processing of the company payroll.

The role of Payroll Officer is part of the Finance department and reports to the Group Payroll Accountant with responsibility for:

  • Preparation and processing of selected payrolls (monthly for Beach Energy full-time employees and directors, monthly for international employees, fortnightly for Beach Energy part-time and casual employees), including the review of payroll reports for validity of data in accordance with internal controls and audit requirements.
  • Ensuring all employer and employee superannuation obligations are met, maintained and comply with superannuation legislation.
  • Ensuring all statutory (PAYG, Payroll Tax, Child Support and WorkCover) and non-statutory payroll requirements are prepared, remitted and reconciled in accordance with business requirements.
  • Processing leave applications and reconciling leave balances.
  • Updating and maintaining payroll records.
  • Assisting with checking payroll to ensure completion of pays in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Maintaining accuracy and confidentiality at all times in relation to employee's remuneration, leave entitlements and associated details.
  • Providing back up support to other payroll members when required.
  • Liaising with employees and management on payroll related queries, ensuring that queries and requests for information are dealt with in a timely, efficient and accurate manner.
  • Monitoring and maintaining accurate Cash Book entries relating to all payroll associated payments and receipts.
  • Developing and documenting payroll policies and procedures.
  • Other payroll duties as directed by the Payroll Group Accountant.

Essential selection criteria

  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivery of accurate payroll processing.
  • Experience using large scale computerised payroll systems.
  • The ability to work autonomously as a motivated self-starter, and work cooperatively to achieve shared goals in a timely manner.
  • Excellent attention to detail that is consistently applied.
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly MS Excel.
  • The ability to work to deadlines and prioritise workload.
  • Numerical ability, data entry and problem solving skills.
  • Customer service focus

Desirable selection criteria

  • Previous experience with Chris21.
  • Previous experience in the corporate operations of oil and gas industry.
