About the business

The Organisation:

NBCA is a not-for-profit community organisation that oversees the running of two early childhood education centres, as well as providing administration services to other not-for-profit childhood education providers in the ACT. 

Formally established in 1987, the Association has a strong commitment to the provision of an inclusive service for children and their families that is based upon fostering secure relationships, applying interactive teaching and learning practices, while taking a holistic approach to every child's individual wellbeing.

We are looking to expand our Administration team with candidates who will actively contribute to a positive and collaborative culture, with a high standard of personal and professional conduct. 

About the role

The Role:

An experienced accounting professional is needed to undertake financial accounting functions for a not-for-profit organisation in the childcare and early childhood education sector. 

This role is within in a small established Administration Unit which works under the direction of an elected Management Committee. 

Key duties will include:

  • Delivery of all accounting processes for the Association and its clients, including all journal entries, reconciliations, month-end and year-end reporting.
  • Complete year-end reporting tasks including preparation of the financial statements to the standard set by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission.
  • Perform all taxation, superannuation and other payroll-related entitlements (BAS, PAYG, LSL and Superannuation).
  • Provide monthly financial reports and analysis of key performance indicators to the Management Committee.
  • Prepare annual budgets and communicate effectively with non-finance staff to monitor ongoing financial performance.
  • Undertake continuous business process and framework improvements, including system enhancements.
  • Other finance duties as required.

The Opportunity:

This role is initially offered as a contract for a minimum of 4 months, with strong potential for a longer term engagement.

This is a part-time role in our Administration Unit. A minimum of 22.5 hours per week will be offered. Flexible working hours can be negotiated by the successful candidate (including school-friendly working hours).

The Salary:

$60k - $70k + Super (pro-rata for part-time hours, negotiable based on experience and qualifications).

Skills and experience

The Person:

We are looking for a career-focused accounting professional with strong progress towards a CPA/CA (if you have not completed it already). 

Demonstrated proficiency in MYOB is a must, and experience using Qikkids is strongly preferred.  

To stretch your skills and leadership experience, you will provide leadership and mentoring to another staff member currently seeking their accounting qualifications.

Experience and skills required for the role include;

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role, within organisations with annual revenue over $1 million.
  • Relevant tertiary education in accounting and finance, with preference given to applicants with CPA/ CA qualifications.
  • Excellent skills in MYOB.
  • Demonstrated experience and strong proficiency in Qikkids - or a commitment to improving moderate proficiency in Qikkids in the short-term.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, and ability to take direction from others and achieve results.
