Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Management Accountant is responsible for completing the monthly departmental performance reports and supporting work papers/documentation containing analysis for variances, cost drivers and trends. In this operational role, you will work closely and collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team and Senior Management Team to ensure effective and efficient financial processes. 

Your new Role

  • Complete month end accounts including bank reconciliations, journal entries, adjustments
  • Prepare monthly financial reports with commentary and analysis
  • Develop and prepare management reports and analysis
  • Assist with the preparation of year end statutory financial statements which comply with Australian Accounting Standards and Government requirements
  • Assist with the year-end audit and deliverables working with the Victorian Auditor General's Office
  • Liaise with senior management and the leadership team to develop operating and capital expenditure budgets in accordance with agreed timetables and entry of budget data
  • Support the Executive Directors with the completion of monthly forecasts
  • Completion of cash flow management including investments, payroll processing and annual reporting requirements
  • Complete ATO reporting requirements including BAS and payroll tax
  • Assist with completion of Board and Financial Audit and Risk Management Committee papers and reports
  • Provide support for the internal and external audits relating to finance functions
  • Continually review and improve financial policies, processes and supporting documentation
  • Leading regular meetings with relevant directors and managers to understand their reporting requirements for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Leading the reporting and forecasting of benefits on a monthly basis

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Bachelor of Business or equivalent
  • Studying towards or qualified Chartered Accountant or Certified Practicing Accountant
  • Proven experience in Accounts payable, payroll and the preparation of managing and completing monthly and annual financial statements including the preparation of statutory reports
  • Previous experience in analysing financial results and communication to Boards and Executives
  • Ability to undertake development of capital and operational budgets
  • Ability to undertake the development and implementation of financial strategies, systems and policies within the public sector (preferable)
  • Proven experience in driving process improvements
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Advanced skills in utilisation of the Microsoft Office Suite in particular Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated experience in the Public sector
