About the role

The role of a Senior Finance Analyst is responsible for ensuring all operational finance related activities are performed and delivered in a timely and accurate manner. To be successful in this role, you will utilise the outputs from other teams (including offshore teams) in an efficient and effective manner to deliver financial information, incorporating business knowledge and providing performance insights, analysis and recommendations to internal stakeholders to support decision making and drive business performance.  This role requires the application and delivery of operational finance expertise to business units to ensure the results accurately reflect financial performance and provide performance analysis and commentary as required.

Accountabilities

In this pivotal and exciting role, your key responsibilities will include:

Period end close

  • Financial management of business unit P&L, Balance sheet, and Investment spend analysis (where appropriate) including the generation of transactions to the ledger (through journals), forecast / plan review, opex/capex review and issue investigation / resolution.
  • Validation of balance sheet account balances for each business unit

Analysis and performance management

  • Analysis (2nd level) of the performance of the business unit utilising Internal reporting
  • Analysis and commentary to support group requirements
  • Management of consolidated reporting and targets within each business unit
  • Analysis of plans, benefits/metrics tracking, budgets, milestones and progress reporting for a number of projects.
  • Sourcing and integration of non-financial drivers and commercial information to support performance management
  • Effective forecasting of P&L, balance sheet, and Investment spend to support the Finance Partner

Supporting the business

  • Management of system requirements to support the business including operating structure, account maintenance, and project set up
  • Management of business unit in adherence to Finance policy and processes
  • Management of planning & forecasting templates and models to ensure consistency and accuracy

 Planning & Forecasting

  • Provide timely and accurate business forecasts, plans and analysis to allow business partners to make better decisions.
  • Business partnering with senior management to deliver the operational budget/forecast in accordance with Group requirements.
  • Co-ordinating budget/forecast processes across multiple business units
  • Producing timely budget/forecast presentation & reports to the Group Performance Management team
  • Working to ensure continuous improvements in budget/forecast tools
  • Investigating and providing ad-hoc analysis to budget/forecast

Skills and experience

You will be customer focused, outcome driven and be inquisitive by nature. Your demonstrated experience working in a similar Senior Finance Analyst role in a large matrix organisation, ideally within Financial Services sector along with previous experience working in a Professional Accounting firm will ensure your success in this position. You will have a deep understanding of financial management and highly evolved expertise in financial analysis, financial and management reporting in addition to the solid understanding of expense and revenue drivers. Your sound knowledge of financial and management accounting standards, policies, practices and processes as they apply to the banking transactions will be an advantageous; along with your ability to communicate with influence – engaging and inspiring others through clear & persuasive communication. You will have proven capabilities in driving continuous improvement initiatives to uplift business performance and support decision making; along with demonstrated ability to work under own initiative and to deal with stakeholders from various areas would be an advantage. A relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Accounting or Finance coupled with a post graduate qualification (CA / CPA) is required for this role.
