This role will lead a team of people, manage key internal customers and external stakeholders. A key focus of the role is to proactively drive the change that is necessary to continuously improve service delivery of the accounting services team.
The accounting services team produces 4 work products being payment of over $1b payroll third party payments, reconciliation of over 140 payroll related balance sheet accounts, 22 bank reconciliations for the group and lease processing. This is a high-volume transaction processing environment in a complex and diverse business.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead a team of 11 staff with appropriate goal setting, coaching & performance management, focussing on direct reports.
- Engage with business customers, BSC and IT to understand their projects and needs and assess impacts on the AS team. Develop & agree, and over time improve, service levels.for each work product.
- Plan resource requirements to meet existing and anticipated changes in workload.
- Develop and implement a program of continuous improvement to Accounting Services processes so as to deliver more efficiently and more effectively.
- Measure, monitor and report progress against key KPIs, service levels and cost.
- Process approvals, assess and manage quality of outputs.
- Contribute to the BSC leadership team in strategy, priority setting and governance.
- Be the voice of Accounting Services in escalating to the business ways that the Business can support BSC in providing a more efficient and effective service for Downer.
Ideally, you will have the following:
- Tertiary qualifications in accounting
- CPA or CA qualified
- Trained in leadership and people management
- At least 3 years’ experience managing people
- Experience and achievement in process improvement.
- Basic level project management experience
- Shared services experience or experience in large volume / complex organisations
- Experience with payroll systems and payroll accounting preferred but not essential
- Clear examples of process improvement implementation
- Proficiency in large ERP software with JD Edwards highly regarded
- Proficiency in the use of Blackline software is preferred but not essential
- Advanced Microsoft applications skills (including Excel, Word and Outlook)
