The Role

We have been exclusively engaged to recruit for a Financial Controller at a global professional services business based in the Sydney CBD. The role reports directly into the CFO and will be in charge of leading, training and developing a team of 4 Financial Accountants. You will be in charge of the full finance function and work closely with a variety of stakeholders across the business including the Senior Management team (across multiple different business units), Partners & Legal staff, Shared Services & Practice Assistants, External Auditors and Tax Advisors and Government Offices.

Key duties will include but not be limited too;

• Managing full financial accounting and tax compliance
• Ensuring that the monthly financial results are produced accurately and on time.
• Producing annual statutory financial statements for all Australian entities plus annual and half yearly consolidated financial statements.
• Managing full external tax compliance function including tax returns, FBT returns, BAS, payroll tax, workers compensation, stamp duty and transfer pricing to comply with statutory regulations and to deliver to deadlines.
• Managing yearly audit with external auditors.
• Adherence to accounting standards and internal board policies, and maintaining firm’s strong internal control environment.
• Managing GST compliance
• Assistance with preparation of budgets and forecasts.
• Participate in special projects and detailed analysis of firm operations as required.
• Ongoing research of and review of tax issues that will impact on the firm, implementation of strategies/practices in line with these issues.
• Regular partnering with shared service managers to discuss monthly financial results
• Managing staff salary packaging function.
• Participate in ad hoc projects and drive continued process improvement.

Experience Required

• CA, ACA, CPA Qualified or equivalent).
• Minimum 10 year’s experience including a good amount of time spent as a Finance Manager / Financial Controller previously
• Previous experience within a Bi4/ Large Mid-Tier Chartered Accounting Practice is desired (The business will also look at Big4/ Large Mid-Tier first time movers)
• Previous Professional Services experience highly desired (If you do not have Professional Services experience you must have experience within a Multinational business).
• Excellent technical accounting skills
• Superior Tax Accounting skills
• Excellent communication skills and strong stakeholder management skills
• A willingness to be hands on and also has a natural ability to lead by example and think outside the box
• Must be ambitious and career driven.
