The Opportunity

We are looking for a Technical Senior Corporate Accountant to manage the implementation of new accounting standards and policies, and ensuring reporting and disclosure is in line with all relevant accounting standards. This role will require the candidate to have strong attention to detail, technical accounting expertise, and impeccable interpersonal skills to drive best practice and provide advice regarding accounting impacts and disclosure requirements for all contracts and proposed transactions. This is a newly created position so much scope to make it your own and make an impact!

The role of Senior Corporate Accountant - Technical is part of the Accounting department and reports to the Group Accounting Manager with responsibility for:

  • Developing Group accounting policies as required including the implementation, communication and training to staff. Ensuring consistency in accounting treatment and the application of accounting policies across the Group.
  • Formulating and administering approved general accounting practices to ensure all non-operated Joint Venture, accounting, financial and operating reports accurately reflect the requirements of Beach.
  • Ensuring Beach reporting and disclosure is in line with all relevant accounting standards.
  • Providing updates to the audit committee on new or revised accounting standards and policies as required and the impact to Beach.
  • Ensuring appropriate financial reviews are completed on all proposed transactions and other commercial arrangements or agreements. Identifying relevant accounting and disclosure/reporting impacts and providing advice as required.
  • Assisting with half year and year end reporting processes, including taking the lead on the coordination of impairment review and restoration provisioning.
  • Assisting with preparation and review of half year and year end statutory accounts, including the preparation of supporting documents for Board/audit committee/auditors.
  • Responding to adhoc financial queries with respect to reporting and technical accounting queries.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Group Accounting Manager.

Essential selection criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting/commerce.
  • Completion of CA or CPA.
  • Substantial experience in a technical role in a chartered firm
  • High level knowledge and understanding of Australian accounting standards
  • Experience in formulating and documenting accounting policies
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills across all levels of the organisation.
  • The ability to apply a high level of accuracy and attention to detail to work.
  • The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office and able to use MS Excel at an Intermediate level.

Desirable selection criteria

  • Oil and gas industry experience.
  • Previous experience using SAP.
