The company

A dynamic and progressive law firm with multiple offices across Australia and its head office based in the Melbourne CBD.  They are a young and entrepreneurial business that has been consistently growing over the last 10 years.  Despite having a boutique model, they work with an impressive host of clients including ASX-listed and multinational companies as well as SMEs and high net wealth individuals.

The role

A diverse role that covers the full finance function, it will require someone that can be both hands-on and high level.  Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will have access to external resources but will also be required to operate effectively and efficiently in a standalone position.  The role requires someone that can take the whole finance function to the next level in terms of the quality of its reporting.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Ownership of the full finance function
• Financial reporting to the board
• Budgeting and forecasting 
• Trust accounts compliance 
• Working closely with the MD and board on developing and implementing effective business strategies 
• Ownership of all finance compliance-related matters
• Cash flow management 
• Managing a range of stakeholders, both internally and externally
• Oversee the accounts receivable and accounts payable functions 
• Ad-hoc project work

The successful candidate

In order to secure this position, you will be both hands-on and commercially minded.  You will be adaptable and place a strong emphasis on relationship building and business partnering across all levels.  The following will be favourably looked upon:

• CA/CPA qualifications
• Relevant industry experience - preferably within legal / professional services 
• Xero experience as well as a general interest in cloud-based software
• Trust accounting experience 
• Experience within a big 4 or mid-tier accounting firm is advantageous
• Technical accounting experience e.g. taxation compliance, compliance with accounting standards etc.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Stakeholder management experience across all levels
• Outstanding communication and presentation skills
