About the opportunity

Reporting to the Financial Controller, this role manages a team of financial analysts who are responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of two corporate entities. Managing, overseeing & reviewing the team output is a core responsibility for this role. You will also work closely with the financial operations team to drive efficiencies and to ensure controls over the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions are working effectively. You should be an experienced leader of people and enjoy motivating individuals to complete their allocated tasks in a timely and accurate manner, as well as be committed to their personal growth & development


Key tasks and responsibilities

Your day to day tasks & responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) :-

  • Overseeing the coordination and control of the StatePlus financial accounting function, ensuring that teams meet local reporting requirements and
    deadlines, and timely, relevant, best practice analysis and reporting is provided, highlighting and summarising critical information.
  • Be responsible for the preparation of all aspects of the FTC Trustee Office financial reporting, including:
    • Supporting the FTC Business Finance team in respect of FTC Trustee Office Management Reporting
    • Supporting the FTC Fund & SPV Financial Reporting team in respect of the First State Super fund financial statements
  • Managing the month-end close process
  • Producing core balance sheet and P&L reporting for the FTC Trustee Office and StatePlus business
  • Be responsible for the balance sheet substantiation process, ensuring account reconciliations have been completed, signed off and any exceptions have been documented
  • Ensuring the preparation of annual financial statements, tax return and other regulatory returns, ensuring all are produced on a timely basis for review by the authorised signatories
  • Review tax provisions and calculations ensuring tax and BAS returns are complete, accurate and submitted on a timely basis
  • Communicating the team strategic plan and goals to your direct reports so that they clearly understand their role in the achievement of organisational goals
  • Assisting team members achieve mutually agreed performance and professional development goals
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and responsive day-to-day support to team members to foster positive work practices and grow their skills
  • Ensuring appropriate internal controls over financial accounting activities are designed, documented and operating effectively
  • Owning the design, establishment, and maintenance of relevant financial policy and procedures
  • Providing final review and sign off of financial accounting information reconciliations, reports and packs ensuring the information is relevant, accurate and complete. Ensuring appropriate process documentation is maintained
  • Ensuring a streamlined accounts payable process
  • Working with other stakeholders in the business to refine and implement Finance strategy
  • Developing the financial accounting function, covering all aspects of organisation, process, people, and IT systems, setting the
    annual timetable and communicating to key stakeholders
  • Liaising with stakeholders to communicate and educate on Finance policies and procedures

About you


You must hold a current accounting professional membership ie CPA or ACA and be able to demonstrate professional experience in the following areas :-

  • Managerial reporting experience within complex corporate and/or top tier CA accounting firm
  • Thorough understanding of relevant local statutory and regulatory accounting and reporting requirements (including ASIC, APRA and ATO)
  • Proven familiarity with applicable tax rules and regulations
  • Proven experience with accounting operations and financial processes and systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong experience preparing & delivering high impact, quality presentations as well as the ability to explain complex Finance and accounting issues in a clear and concise manner to non-technical
    colleagues
  • Highly developed problem solving and data analytic skills
  • Results orientation, with the ability to identify key actionable items from complex problems
  • Demonstrated leadership and relationship building skills
