The Opportunity

ActewAGL has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual with a strong financial background and analytical skills to take on the leadership role of managing a diverse and professional team of Financial Accountants.

As a member of the Financial Performance and Reporting branch, you will be primarily responsible for maintaining the integrity of the financial reporting for the ActewAGL Retail Partnership (AAR) in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards (AAS) and accounting policies of AAR.

Some Key Specifics of the role:

Reporting to the Head of Financial Performance & Reporting, you will:

  • Have ownership of our balance sheet and account reconciliation processes to maintain the integrity of the general ledger and supporting sub-ledgers in accordance with our account reconciliation policy. 
  • Own the completion of month end closing procedures in accordance with the stated timetable and ensure that the closing process is also completed in line with our internal policies. 
  • Ensure completion of equity accounting with respect to investments held in joint ventures. 
  • Ensure that key controls over revenue and cost recognition, including the related balance sheet accounts, are maintained at all times.
  • Ensure that financial models for material balances are accurately maintained and updated for changes in business circumstances.
  • Prepare and manage the monthly Business Performance Report including thorough variance analysis. 
  • Manage the year-end external audit process including the preparation of variance analysis for financial reporting purposes and the review of financial statements.

What are we looking for? To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or a related discipline and CA/CPA membership or equivalent 
  • Demonstrated experience working in a senior financial or managerial accounting position within a medium to large scale operation. 
  • Proven technical accounting skills with a deep understanding of (AAS) and experience in applying accounting concepts as they relate to accounting estimates and judgements. 
  • Well-developed quantitative, financial and analytical skills, with a proven ability to interpret financial and non-financial statistical information. 
  • Strong Excel skills including experience with TM1 and the Oracle Financial Suite (or similar financial system)
