Family Services Illawarra (FSI), trading as Family Services Australia is a community service NFP organisation, which is delivering a multi-disciplined approach to child, youth and family services.  We are passionate, dedicated, flexible and innovative in the way we support vulnerable families throughout the Illawarra/Shoalhaven and NSW Southern regions.

About the role

The Finance Officer will work closely with the finance team and CFO. The team will be lead contact for our vendors, sharing knowledge and resources to manage queries from the team and our clients.

Below is an example of duties which are spread between the two Finance Officer positions, these are included but not limited to: 

  • Implement and monitor approved financial policies and procedures of the service;
  • Ensure financial data is input to the accounting system (MYOB);
  • Keep accurate financial documentation and records, both electronic and hard copy;
  • Maintain financial records;
  • Assist in conjunction with managers to prepare budgets, as requested by CFO and MD;
  • Prepare the fortnightly payroll using electronic payroll system;
  • Maintain payroll records (electronic and physical) including staff leave, superannuation entitlements, and salary packaging arrangements;
  • Prepare, submit and maintain monthly and quarterly reports to the ATO, including PAYG and BAS;
  • Timely preparation of financial material required for financial reporting to the Board;
  • Attend to all banking requirements;
  • Manage petty cash and expense claim forms;
  • Ensure creditor invoices are paid accurately and on time;
  • Prepare requisitions for expense payments, including creation of EFT's in the bank and writing of cheques;
  • Raising invoices as necessary;
  • Share responsibility for telephone functions;
  • Share responsibility for the administrative filing system;
  • Liaise with suppliers to create, manage accounts and build relationships;
  • Ensure supplier invoices are received to support expenses
  • Maintain electronic and physical records of creditors, ensuring up-to-date details are recorded

Skills and experience

Essential skills for full filling the position: 

  • Qualifications in business – Certificate IV in Financial Services or equivalent
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Office 365
  • Proven experience using MYOB accounting and Payroll software package
  • Financial literacy and numeracy skills
  • Strong commitment to working with vulnerable families
  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated sound organizational skills

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of community support agencies and the ability to liaise with other agencies
