The City of Playford is the fastest growing Council in South Australia, embedded with a strong community spirit amidst its culturally diverse population of 90,000 residents.

Covering 350km2 and spread over urban and peri-urban areas, the heart of Playford is undergoing an unprecedented transformation. In the past three years, our Council has secured over $440 million in private and public investment into Playford’s CBD, Sports and Health Precincts as well as our growth areas.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the General Manager City Services is responsible for leading a significant and diverse portfolio including - Community Services comprising Community Development and Community Inclusion, Development Services, Health Environment and Regulatory Services, Marketing Communications and the Arts and Libraries, Customer Care and Civic Venues.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the City Services portfolio which includes successfully delivering a 3-5-year Business Unit Plan in accordance with councils strategic vision
  • Provide leadership, direction, evaluation and review of the implementation of the strategic directions of Council, ensuring cost-effective customer focused services are provided to the community throughout your department
  • Develop and drive organisational culture of accountability and high performance using contemporary people management practices
  • Provide high level guidance and support to the Council, Chief Executive Officer, Executive and senior managers within the organisation
  • Develop and nurture highly functioning relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, showing a thorough understanding of community and organisational needs
  • Raise the quality and efficiency of the services that Council provide to meet and adapt to the growth challenges the community will experience
  • Ensure Council's physical, financial and human resources are managed and services are provided efficiently in a manner which meets community needs and Council requirements

You will possess high-level decision making, conceptual thinking and be competent in making sound judgments, recommendations, driving progression and developing multi-disciplinary teams through change. Tertiary qualifications in Management, Business or related discipline and a thorough understanding of relevant political, economic and social issues, as well as the future demands and challenges relevant to a significant growth, service based organisation is essential.

You will have considerable financial and business acumen and support contemporary use of technology to deliver change management and continuous improvement. Whilst your drive to generate innovative ideas and solutions will be critical to your success, your collaborative ability and genuine commitment to unceasingly deliver real value to the community and improve the councils service standards will be your overarching focus.
