Let me put you in the picture. My client, is a premium branded German based company who is a manufacturer of high end precision products, sold to trade, wholesale and retail customers in the construction industry.  

They are so-called “Hidden Champions”, leading the global market, combining longstanding tradition with a narrowly defined specialist product and sharp focus on technical and market driven innovation. Combine this with a values-driven strategy and real commitment to ambitious growth goals, positions them very well for further long term success.

Following the acquisition of their long serving Australian distributor known for its quality standards and strong market penetration, my client is now looking to establish a fully owned subsidiary business. They are keen to select a high-performing, visionary and like-minded executive who is ready to lead this medium sized business into new territory, whilst staying true to the fundamental customer centric principals that have guaranteed this profitable company’s ongoing success.

In this new role, you will be reporting directly, and working in close partnership with the global CEO, as the owner of the Australian story for this group. You’ll bring your knowledge and track record of driving an ambitious but measured growth strategy, for a deep rather than broad product range in the building and construction market. You’ll be asked to draw upon the core elements of the global business and culture, to lay the foundations for this organisation to launch under a unified brand in the Australian marketplace.

Critical to your success in the early period will be your ability to manage organisational transformation, engaging and maintaining employee and customer loyalty. Of course, we will be looking for evidence of your relentless attention to doing things well every time, optimising business outcomes by creating and communicating a clear vision, and developing a culture that empowers the talent of the team and thrives on achieving uncompromising service levels and high performance.

As a core part of the establishment of the subsidiary and to ensure operational efficiency you will also be tasked with the implementation of core  igital, compliance and reporting systems, as well as assessing  and aligning processes and procedures, the core capabilities, risks and immediate opportunities for the new business.

We will be looking for a commercially minded executive who is comfortable working with the big picture, as much as, the practical problem solving of day to day issues. You will need to have a strong end to end view across all aspects of managing a sales and distribution organisation, and bring an inspiring approach that energises those around you. You will thrive in building trusted relationships, be it with customers, suppliers, staff members of international stakeholders. You make it your business to know what is going on in the broader organisation, so that you are abreast of the latest innovations that will benefit your customers. Undoubtedly, your previous track record of owning and delivering on strategy achieving best practice results in customer, revenue and profitability, will lay the foundations for your success in transitioning and growing this business.

So, to summarise you will be a national sales or general manager, with a deep passion and experience in the sale of premium products in the building and construction industry. You will be self-confident, articulate, patient to see things through but also hungry to drive quality outcomes.

Due to the level of this position it is expected you will have a relevant degree in a commerce/business discipline, with postgraduate qualifications a distinct advantage. Regular travel to Europe and around Australia will be expected throughout the year however will not be an onerous schedule.
