Governance Institute of Australia Ltd is the only independent professional association with a sole focus on whole-of-organisation governance. It promotes and advances effective governance in Australian organisations and the wider community.  Its events, education programs and extensive resources provide its 7500+ members, subscribers and aspiring chartered secretaries, governance professionals and risk managers with the tools and knowledge to drive strong, accountable performance in their roles and organisations. The Institute then supports them as members by advocating for sound regulatory frameworks.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced business leader to provide strong leadership to the Institute. Having undergone a period of significant transformation where strong foundations have been laid to ensure a long term, sustainable future, the Board wishes to appoint the next CEO who will lead and manage all aspects of the institute nationally, drive the implementation of the strategic plan and take the organisation through its next period of growth and success.

Working closely with the Board, the CEO’s key responsibilities will include:

• Strong leadership and management of the Institute and its state offices;
• Driving and executing effective strategies which deliver on the Institute’s strategic plan and goals;
• Ensuring continuous improvement in customer processes and delivering exceptional member and stakeholder value;
• Promoting a high-performance culture, where employees share a common vision and purpose;
• Developing and maintaining proactive relationships with internal and external stakeholder groups;
• Encouraging innovative and creative thinking, embracing new ideas and initiatives, being adept at identifying new and emerging opportunities to diversify current revenue streams; and
• Collaborating with key external stakeholders to enhance and promote Governance Institute of Australia’s brand, reputation and position as the peak governance body in Australia.

The successful candidate will have held the role of CEO or be an experienced senior leader with direct exposure to the CEO role. They will have a demonstrable track record in effectively leading and managing organisations and people, financial management, and change and transformation, as well as driving strategy, culture, business improvement, profit and growth. A good understanding of digital technology and public relations experience would be advantageous. You will also possess the ability to inspire, engage and create the necessary momentum required to continue the ongoing transformation of the Institute.

While experience working in professional member associations will be well regarded, candidates who have strong commercial and leadership backgrounds who have worked in other sectors are strongly encouraged to apply. Key personal attributes include gravitas, passion, energy, strong interpersonal and communication skills, delivery orientation, and resilience.

Location: Sydney based, with a national focus.
