About the branch

The Melbourne Division is responsible for the delivery of on-ground works and services that conserve environments, protect culture and heritage, manage visitor facilities and improve opportunities and support fire and emergency management. The Divisional resources will support environmental, social and economic outcomes for Melbourne communities. Service delivery is managed and delivered within the demands of the Divisional Action Plan and in partnership with community and government agencies.

About the role

The position of District Manager provides operational leadership to the District Management Team and all staff in the District.  They have accountability for the development and delivery of the District Action Plan, ensuring consistency with the Regional Action Plan. The role has management over the Districts' Parks and the relationships and requirements of the Traditional Owners within the specific District. The District Manager is also responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with the broader community and other organisations. The District Manager has complete oversight for the District for emergency management and fire management requirements. The District Manager will also manage the finance, governance and risk management requirements and controls for their District.

In this role you will be responsible for:

As a District Manager you'll be responsible for providing guidance, advice and information on the development and implementing the District Action Plan in the region. You'll be at the forefront of assisting the region's management teams with providing information, advice, managing the timeframes and services provided to the community and organization. Providing strong leadership and support to our Area Chief Rangers and assisting with budgetary requirements, risk management and capacity planning play a large function in this role. Building and maintaining effective relationships across Parks Victoria, other government agencies and a wide range of stakeholders including traditional landowners is key to success in this role. This role will also actively assist and lead change initiatives to enable Parks Victoria to be a high performing and resilient organisation.

To be successful for this role you will need:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Business and/or equivalent experience is essential; Conservation and Land Management experience would be beneficial
  • Demonstrated evidence in the management of people and performance standards
  • Proven issue identification, analytical and research skills, problem solving skills and a demonstrated ability to develop innovative, sensitive and practical solutions and provide strategic advice to complex issues
  • Demonstrated experience in complex engagement and stakeholder management is required.
