Executive Manager - Woden Valley Gymnastics Club

We are looking for expressions of interest from those interested in our Executive Manager position. Leading the work of the management team (administration and programs) and over 50 permanent, part-time and casual staff, requires significant skills and demonstrated experience in staff management and development, finance/budgets, customer relations, change management, communication and strategic planning.

This position could be part-time (with flexible hours) or full-time (combined with other duties across the club). There is scope to expand this role further and the salary is negotiable for the right applicant (commensurate with skills and experience).

We are looking for someone with experience in a similar role in a sporting or community organisation or in running a substantial service industry or operation, with a successful track record in organisational redesign and in leading and inspiring a large team.

THE JOB:

Woden Valley Gymnastic Club (the largest, most diverse gymnastic club in Canberra) is looking for new Executive Manager. The Executive Manager is the key leadership role of the club reporting to the committee and directing the work of the management team. The Executive Manager is responsible for the day to day running of the club, whilst working with the committee to deliver the long term strategic outcomes for the club. The Club is going through an exciting time of change and re-invention, with a new Committee, new policies and directions, as well as new staff and programs, so we are keen to find someone who can guide us through this process to a new level of operation and expansion.

Duty Statement:

  • To be responsible for all day-to-day management decisions and for implementing WVGC’s long and short term plans.
  • To be the direct liaison between the Committee, management team and senior staff members of WVGC and communicate to the Committee on behalf of management and staff.
  • To communicate on behalf of WVGC to shareholders, employees, state and national bodies, government authorities, other stakeholders and the public.
  • To ensure that WVGC has the necessary policies and procedures in place to comply with its legal and social responsibilities.
  • To provide a safe and well managed facility through compliance with contractual and industry standards.
  • • To manage all aspects of WVGC's staff resources, including performance reviews, contact negotiations, recruitment and provision of professional development opportunities.
  • To prepare and operate an annual financial budget for delivery of the Club's annual Plan.
  • To implement and monitor an effective program of preventative maintenance of WVGC assets.
  • To assist in the development an Annual Business Plan with assistance from all Club programs
  • To develop an Annual Marketing Plan in conjunction with the Club Committee and Program Managers.
  • To oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive range of innovative gymnastics programs to meet the need of the needs of the community.
  • • To develop and oversee a range of events and projects as outlined in the WVGC Annual Calendar and WVGC Marketing Plan.
  • To attend national and State conferences, courses and educational workshops as negotiated and agreed by the Committee.

ABOUT THE ROLE

General Duties

  • Direct, control and organise staff to ensure the satisfaction of parents, gymnasts and other stakeholders.
  • Assume overall responsibility for the running of the club.
  • Manage all finances and staffing
  • Prepare monthly reports.
  • Maintain an open and accurate channel of communication with the Committee.
  • Implement, control & review all procedures relating to running of the club.

Quality of Service

  • Satisfy all customer requirements by ensuring that the service is constantly maintained at a high standard.

Productivity

  • Maintain and/or implement new efficient and effective work methods and systems.
  • Be informed and aware of all relevant legislation regarding the running of gymnastics club.

Supervision

  • Direct, control and organise the staff to ensure that the required standards are achieved and maintained.
  • Liaise with the Committee and management team regarding recruitment needs, and to carry out interviews as required.
  • Train new staff in methods and procedures.
  • Promote and practice relevant health and safety and fire safety standards.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Maintain a harmonious work relationship between yourself, your staff and customers.
  • Provide staff with a thorough understanding of their jobs and standards of performance and to clarify duties and responsibilities.

Qualification & Key Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role in another sporting or community organisation
  • Relevant qualifications

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Ability to build a strong team focused on delivering high quality outcomes and exceeding the expectations of club members
  • Ability to develop, plan, execute and follow up on club promotions and other activities
  • Enhance our club and the members
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft office software including: word, excel and outlook
