About the business and the role

Yourkids children and youth services provides respite and accommodation to children and young adults with varying disabilities and behaviours of concern. We currently have 17 houses where these services are provided with our main office situated in Prospect with 125 staff working across these sites.

Yourkids is a young vibrant and energetic boutique organisation (for profit) that provides a holistic approach in all that it does. We are very passionate about the values of yourkids and look forward to someone joining our team who will also embrace these. We believe the success of yourkids is due to the calibre of our staff. 

We are in the process of opening the not for profit entity 'yourkids house' This position of GM will involve work in both organisations in the beginning With opportunity for being employed solely in either organisation as things progress.

The General Manager is responsible for the operational management of yourkids and for the development and growth of child and adult services.

The General Manager will develop the culture through leadership and professional development of all staff, building person-centred services, focusing on clients' needs and aspirations.

Overall, the General Manager role will include;

  • Managing & leading service delivery, finance and accounts, human resources and WHS at all service sites.
  • Overseeing staff development through coaching & training.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of yourkids' strategic plan, business plans, policies and procedures with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Contributing to the growth of yourkids through development and implementation of projects. 

Job tasks and responsibilities

Your Leadership & Management

  • Manage accommodation & respite services in line with yourkids' values, strategic direction and budget
  • Assist company, staff and clients with transition to NDIS
  • Embed effective teamwork practices with Service Coordinators to ensure a positive work environment
  • Establish continuous improvements and quality systems.
  • Ensure a safe environment for staff, clients & visitors
  • Use best practice human resource policies in performance management, service delivery and staff induction
  • Ensure person-centred service delivery approach is consistent through yourkids
  • Ensure staff training, policies and procedures all meet legislative requirements

Your Service Delivery

  • Ensuring service provision is tailored to individual client's needs
  • Ensuring service is NDIS-compliant and aligned to organisational direction
  • Create pathways for clients to become independent with a view to maximising integration into their community
  • Establish positive relationships with clients, families, carers and advocates
  • Review operational practices on an ongoing basis to ensure yourkids is continually improving while complying with sector legislation.
  • Ensure all systems & processes meet ASES' quality and audit requirements, NDIS, Licencing and other appropriate systems.
  • Manage client enquiries & complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to develop and effective linkages relevant to the client's support plan and goals.
  • Ensure clients' access to information on rights, responsibilities, and confidentiality and privacy issues.

Your Financial & Business Management

  • Develop and implement strong financial governance strategy.
  • Monitor and review financial performance.
  • Assisting the Director, developing annual budgets.
  • Manage the service within an annual budget.

Your Records Management

  • Ensure staff records accuracy.
  • Ensure staff's ongoing training across all yourkids' systems and processes.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed to meet all government and legislative requirements and timelines.

Your People Management

  • Assisting with staff recruitment and selection of staff.
  • Direct and participate in staff supervision, support and performance appraisal processes.
  • Conduct annual performance development review including training and development plans.
  • Investigate and resolve workplace issues and conflicts.
  • Collaboratively communicate with team members, staff and external professionals

Skills and experience

Your Special Conditions

Employment in this role is conditional on you maintaining;

  • Your clear National Criminal History Check
  • Your current driver's license
  • Your reliable, registered motor vehicle, comprehensively insured for work related duties
  • Your current Apply First Aid Certification (formally Senior First Aid)
  • Your current Child Safe Environments Certification
  • Your unrestricted right to work in Australia (VISA evidence required)


Your Key Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in related discipline and/or 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Record of successful tender writing.
  • Experience in disability services, understanding legislation & philosophies relating to people with a disability.
  • Experience in working with Child Protection Services and clients.
  • Experience growing an Accommodation Service based on person-centred practice.
  • Successful project management, development and implementation.
  • Contemporary understandings of the rights & service needs of disabled people plus behavioural management strategies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, working effectively with clients, their families, community agencies and other professionals.
  • Working effectively under pressure, as part of a team and independently.

Desired

  • Experience supporting children & adolescents with challenging behaviour.
  • Experience monitoring employee performance & providing constructive criticism.
