Role Overview

CAE Australia is continuing to develop its capability to deliver Air, Naval, Land and Joint Defence projects and has an exciting position for an experienced manager and leader to support business capture. The Capture Manager will lead the capture process for large opportunities and develop proposals for smaller opportunities. The Capture Manager should be an accomplished business developer who understands project management, contracts, and proposal development. The preferred candidate will have a passion for delivering exercise and training systems and services to defence, with a bias towards innovative technology based and live training solutions.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversee business capture, from pursuit decision through to contract award and handover to project execution
  • Coordinate with Business Development to ensure a smooth transition from the Business Development Lead to the Capture Manager in line with CAE’s lead-to-award process
  • Evaluate industry competitors for strengths and weaknesses in order to maximize Probability of Win
  • Identify and manage resources required to pursue a capture
  • Manage a Capture Team that develops solution, bid/win, pricing, teaming, and proposal strategies
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of functional groups across the global organisation, such as sales, engineering, business development, manufacturing, operations, finance, and legal to develop and provide program definitions responsive to customer needs and market opportunities
  • Support and participate in the proposal development process, ensuring compliance with win themes, solicitation requirements are met, and price is competitive
  • Develop and maintain a capture budget

Knowledge, Skills and Personal Attributes:

  • The ability to successfully lead cross-department teams without having functional authority
  • Ability to effectively manage ambiguity and a variety of abstract ideas while remaining customer focused
  • Must display tact and self-discipline necessary to interface effectively with diverse internal customers and management, external customers, and government agencies
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors, and respond to common inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  • Ability to interpret attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication
  • Strong analytical and problem solving competences
  • Ability to analyse, and interpret complex customer requirements and common contractual documents
  • Astute decision making and negotiation skills

Highly Desirable:

  • Knowledge of system capabilities and operations applicable for Air, Naval, Land and/or Joint training domains
  • An understanding of ASDEFCON and Defence proposal process and Defence procurement practices
  • Understanding of military protocols and customs
  • Project Management, integrated solutions design and/or training delivery experience
  • An appreciation of the training system design and support processes
  • Delivery and/or management of complex training solutions and services
  • Capable of obtaining Defence security clearance and access to ITAR data

The preferred candidate will have skills and experience in two or more of the following:

  • Proven successful experience in capture management or business development
  • Use of simulation-based exercise or training systems to deliver training outcomes
  • Development of simulation-based exercise or training systems
  • An appreciation of the training analysis and design process
  • Experience writing proposals, preferably Government/Defence pursuits
  • Cost and profit analysis of revenue model construction; maintenance of allocated budgets
