Our Hotel

Located on the marina in the heart of Cairns, the five-star Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina Cairns is the ultimate place to stay for business or pleasure. Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina Cairns is conveniently situated at the marina, with uninterrupted panoramic views of spectacular Trinity Bay, world-class Marlin Marina and breathtaking mountain ranges allowing you to experience the tropical north at its best.

The hotel comprises of 255 spacious guest rooms and suites, all with balconies and most with water views. Guest rooms have spectacular views over Marlin Marina, Trinity Bay, Cairns City, rainforest gardens or the hotel’s sparkling pool.

Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina, Cairns, offers the ideal city centre hotel conference venue. The ballroom is equipped with the latest video conference technology. It offers space for theatre-style meetings seating up to 330 people, a banquet for 220, and cocktails for 400.

Our hotel is currently undergoing a transformation in our guest rooms and will shortly be commencing a complete renovation of our restaurant. 

The Job

Reporting to our Director of Sales and Marketing, you will be responsible for sales activities from our valuable Japanese clients.  This includes Government, Corporate, Wholesale Offline and Online Travel Agencies, Corporate Meetings, Incentives and Wholesale Group Tours. 

You will develop new relationships with potential clients whilst maintaining our existing level of business from this market. 

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate an ability to build relationships and source potential new business opportunities as we continue to grow this market segment.  You will execute effective business development strategies that will ensure a continued and sustainable profitable growth for rooms as well as other revenue centres.  You will keep abreast of our competitor activity and implement effective counter strategies to ensure we remain competitive. 

You may be required to undertake interstate and international travel trips in association with our Regional Sales Office and Local Tourism Groups. 

Other duties will include:

  • Co-ordinate and conduct site inspections
  • Draft contracts
  • Meet and greet key clients

It is essential that you speak and write fluent Japanese and that you have worked in the Japanese market, preferably within a hotel.

  • have previous experience in a similiar role
  • have excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, Delphi and other CRM software
  • have the ability to build positive professional relationships with clients
  • are highly motivated and target driven with a proven track record in sales
  • have excellent selling, communication and negotiation skills.
