Job purpose
 
The primary role of the Business Development Manager at our client is to prospect for new clients by networking, cold calling, advertising or other means of generating interest from potential clients. The BDM must plan persuasive approaches and pitches that will convince potential clients to do business with this commercial builder.
The BDM must develop a rapport with new clients, and set targets for sales and provide support that will continually improve the relationship; he/she is required to grow and retain existing accounts by presenting new solutions and services to clients;
He/she may manage the activities of others responsible for developing business for the company. Strategic planning is a key part of the daily duties, since it is the business manager’s responsibility to develop the pipeline of new business coming into the company. This requires a thorough knowledge of the market, industry regulations, the solutions/services the company can provide, and of the company’s competitors.

Scope
 
The Business Development Manager works to improve our clients market position and achieve financial growth. This person defines long-term organizational strategic goals, builds key customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, negotiates and closes business deals and maintains extensive knowledge of current market conditions.
 
Duties and responsibilities

  • New business development
  • Prospect for potential new clients and turn this into increased business. 
  • Cold call as appropriate within the market or geographic area to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities.
  • Meet potential clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging network. 
  • Identify potential clients, and the decision makers within the client organization. 
  • Research and build relationships with new clients. 
  • Set up meetings between client/decision makers and team. 
  • Plan approaches and pitches. Work with the team to develop proposals that speaks to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives. 
  • Participate in pricing the solution/service. 
  • Handle objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements and working through differences to a positive conclusion. Use a variety of styles to persuade or negotiate appropriately. 
  • Present an image that mirrors that of the client.

Construction

  • The BDM is expected to have an up-to-date knowledge of the projects, including the stages of these projects
  • Liaise with clients and project team during the construction process
  • Monitor client satisfaction trough follow up on solving client issues and problems
  • Relay information to internal stakeholders in incident situations regards clients and/or projects
  • Plan and schedule meetings with clients and develop the trust necessary to ensure lifetime relationship with clients and stakeholders.
  • Liaising between current clients and team to identify and discuss project development
  • Take personal ownership and manage customer’s expectations
  • Ensure that questions that arise from clients are directed to the correct place for resolution and escalated if required.
  • Ensure that clients are kept fully informed of developments/projects relation to their issue to prevent further queries
  • Identify and implement solutions to resolve any issues that may result in a dissatisfied client.
  • Provide feedback to management on areas of improvements
  • Ensure own compliance with quality procedures.
