About the role

As an Events and Business Development Specialist you will coordinate and understand what sports, arts and cultural event owners require to facilitate their events, and then strategically aligning partnering Local Government Bodies who have the capacity to satisfy those requirements.

You will be allocated an area and a client base to grow and develop over time. As all your clients will be based in Metropolitan centres, there will be a need to travel at least once per month. There will also be a need to travel to regional Australia to visit partnering regional Councils from time to time. All travel expenses will be met by SMA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a portfolio of accounts (both Councils and sporting organisations) to achieve long-term success in the events tourism industry
  • Work within the guidelines of a strategy which is focused both on commercial and customer satisfaction outcomes
  • Identify new markets and ways to satisfy customer needs
  • Arrange business meetings with prospective clients
  • Promote the company’s products and services to address and predict clients’ objectives
  • Negotiate economic, branding, and community benefits for clients and stakeholders
  • Prepare agreements ensuring adherence to rules and guidelines
  • Keep records of sales, revenue, invoices etc.
  • Provide trustworthy feedback and support to clients and senior management
  • Build long-term relationships with new and existing customers

About you

You will have will have a proven history of success in the identification of new business opportunities, the ability to manage the entire sales cycle from initial contact to project completion. You must have extensive field-based business development experience and a proven track record in achieving goals.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Full Unrestricted Drivers licence.
  • A synergy with our culture as a friendly and helpful team member.
  • Display excellent communication skills, strong time-management & organisational ability, plus a can-do attitude with a pro-active hands on approach.
  • Maturity, discretion, and patience are a must for this position, as well as a consistent approach supported by a sound and conscientious work ethic.
  • Tertiary qualifications in business, marketing, or events would be looked upon favourably.
