The Project

Ventia is one of the largest providers of road network, motorway and tunnel operations and maintenance services in Australasia.  Our integrated transport services support our clients with reliable and safe journey management, meaning safety and efficiency for the driving public.  This is an exciting opportunity to join our team if you’re someone with skills in the development of local supply chain capability, strategic procurement to drive value, collaborative supply chain working and driving improved commercial outcomes whilst delivering client value within a road maintenance and road improvement contract environment. 

About the role

Reporting to the Transport Regional Manager (West), you will be responsible for developing, managing and maintaining key relationships with our key client Main Roads Western Australia ensuring successful delivery of local content, Aboriginal participation and training targets and obligations.  This is a permanent role and based in Perth, Western Australia.  Ventia has recently secured the five-year Stat-wide Electrical Services Contract to deliver electrical road asset maintenance and minor capital works for Main Roads, Western Australia (WA). 

Being an integral part of the WA leadership team, you will also lead the engagement and upskilling of locally based supply chain, champion increased Aboriginal business and employment participation across the other road maintenance contracts for Ventia in Western Australia. 

Your responsibilities include:

The Business Manager’s primary function is to realise value for money through the efficient engagement, procurement and management of our local industry supply chain. The role is responsible for creating and sustaining a collaborative working relationship and strong operational performance with our supply chain. The Business Manager will be responsible for the governance and management of all commercial and financial processes needed to support the contract. The role will provide day-to-day leadership of the financial and commercial services on site to ensure the achievement of Main Roads WA contract objectives and expectations.

Customer and community outcomes

  • Building and optimising a sustainable local industry for the Electrical Services contract, including deployment of Ventia’s Buy Local policy in line with the WA Government commitments, ensuring achievement of our target of 80% of all subcontracted goods and services delivered through WA businesses
  • Establish a collaborative working relationship with Main Roads and Ventia’s supply chain, working towards alignment with the ISO 44001 Collaborative contracting standard
  • Realising the legacy of increased industry capability in the delivery of both electrical and road asset maintenance and capital works, realising Ventia’s target of developing, establishing and maintaining three competent Electrical Services Tier 2 contractors
  • Support the Aboriginal Coordinator with the identification, engagement and development of capability of local Aboriginal businesses to achieve or exceed our stretch targets for subcontracted services delivered through Aboriginal Business in the State-wide Electrical, Pilbara RNC contracts and any other awarded WA transport contracts.

Contract performance

  • Establish and monitor performance against all key performance indicators and key result areas, providing timely information and data to both operational managers and Main Roads to facilitate continuous improvement
  • Implement effective risk and commercial management to deliver the requirements of the contract
  • Establish systems and processes to ensure commercial and financial compliance within the contract including auditing, reporting and non-conformance close out

About you

To be successful in this busy and challenging role, you will possess the following skills, experience and qualifications:

  • Degree in business or relevant degree
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role, maintenance/construction and contract management within infrastructure services
  • Collaborative communication style with the ability to work effectively with clients, supply chain and the wider Ventia team
  • Confident negotiating and influencing desired outcomes
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to engage with supply chain, develop capability and drive strong performance in contract outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience in managing commercial, financial, HR, training and development activities within a construction and ideally road maintenance environment
