Our client is a leading provider of steel solutions and is one of the oldest listed companies on the NZX.  With a national network of branches and distribution centres, it engages in markets and projects across infrastructure, construction (commercial and residential), heavy and light engineering, energy, manufacturing, viticulture and rural sectors.

Our client is looking to appoint a talented executive to lead the Sales and Marketing function across the circa NZ$370m Distribution business in New Zealand.  Reporting to the General Manager Distribution, the Sales & Marketing Manager provides strategic and hands on leadership to the division’s customer offer, sales force effectiveness, pricing and product management teams.  This includes responsibility for reviewing, planning and implementing the Sales Force Effectiveness Programmes, overall product strategy, pricing management and marketing strategies & execution for the Distribution business unit.

Accordingly, we are seeking expressions of interest from individuals who have:

  • At least 10 years’ experience across sales and marketing in a service driven environment, including management level experience in a multi-site, large scale, distribution business, preferably in the construction/building/industrial supplies and/or steel industry sectors.
  • Hands on, successful active key account management experience.
  • An ability to succinctly translate ‘the complex’ into ‘the understandable’ for employees at all levels, with highly developed problem solving and logical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in, and understanding of, customers’ needs with the ability to augment the customers’ requirements.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and delivering through a large sales and service team. Experience in implementing programmes of change, developing new cultures, systems and procedures within a large sales and customer service team across a national business with multiple sites.
  • Experience in leading successful change programmes.
  • A well-honed diplomatic approach and persuasive personality that has the respect of peers and other professionals in the industry. Excellent influencing and relationship building skills.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen.
