The Role:

An exciting opportunity exists for a well-rounded Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) Coordinator to join our progressive HR team in a fixed-term (6 month) capacity, based at our Head Office in Richmond, Melbourne.   Reporting to the HR Manager – Corporate, this standalone WHS role blends strategic and hands-on operational activities and will be responsible for establishing, implementing and maintaining WH&S systems for the Company in accordance with legislative requirements.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Establish, develop, implement and maintain WHS management systems for the Company’s footprint spanning a Head Office, retail stores and warehouse in accordance with applicable standards and legislation
  • Coordinate WHS committee meetings and associated reporting of recommendations
  • Prepare reports for the Board and Executive management
  • Monitor and report on incident, injury and hazards
  • Review and enhance WHS training resources and facilitate training activities
  • Manage hazard identification, risk assessment and risk management activities, ensuring corrective actions, preventative actions and continues improvements are effectively implemented
  • In consultation with relevant managers and WH&S representatives, undertake hazard and incident investigations; facilitate the development and implementation of risk controls and monitor their effectiveness
  • Act as an advocate in relation to the implementation and continuous improvement of safety, actively seek areas of opportunity and continuous improvement across WHS
  • Manage WHS workplace auditing activities including audits, inspections, hazard/near miss reporting and risk assessments
  • Develop and coordinate programs and initiatives to ensure ongoing hazard identification, risk assessment, risk management, electrical testing, safe plant and safe working practices across the Company’s footprint
  • Act as a mentor to staff and management in relation to the implementation and continuous improvement of safety
  • Manage Workcover claims, reporting and return to work activities in conjunction with HR
  • Continually assist in the improvement of health and safety systems and processes to eliminate duplication, improve efficiency and customer service; and
  • Coordinate the Company’s Contractor Management procedure

The Requirements:

You will be a self-motivated, enthusiastic WHS specialist who is driven to achieve results and can easily alternate between the strategic and operational elements of this role. A full understanding of Australian Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, Standards and Regulations is essential for this role and you will possess relevant qualifications in Risk Management or Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent).
