The City of Launceston, an accredited Employer of Choice, is seeking to fill the following position:

Work Health & Safety Team Leader

In this 3 year contract position (5 day working week) you will be responsible for leading and coordinating the safety coach team to deliver a revitalised Work Health and Safety (WHS) service across the City of Launceston. This is an exciting time to build on this important area and to shape a new corporate approach to WHS, with the ultimate goal that all employees go home safe and well each day.

We are looking for a sound WHS practitioner to provide expert support and advice across our diverse Council, who is able to make sense of at times complex material and communicate it succinctly to a diverse audience with passion and flair. The role will work closely with Directors and Senior Leaders to achieve strategic and operational objectives and targets. The Work Health and Safety Team Leader is a proactive advocate for safety and works to promote the creation of a safe and healthy workplace whilst holding others to account for their own health and safety behaviours and responsibilities.

You will need:

  • Relevant qualification from a tertiary institution, or substantial relevant work experience with the desire to undertake formal qualifications.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated decision making, negotiation and change management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data, knowledge and experience to identify problems and proactively develop and implement effective solutions.
  • Well-developed written, verbal communication and facilitation skills.
  • High-level skills in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), along with experience in corporate software (including electronic document storage, management and retrieval).
  • Ability to assess and analyse data, and prepare reports.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of WHS legislation, codes of practice and other requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to all employees, from senior management through to less experienced employees.
  • Current driver's licence.
