Newcastle City Council has an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR Business Partner to join the team on a Temporary full time basis.

Working as a key member of the HR Operations Team, you will partner with your allocated Service Units to provide true HR Generalist advice and assistance across the full spectrum of Human Resources matters, including performance management, disciplinary issues, grievances, job evaluation and redesign, recruitment, conflict resolution, industrial relations issues, salary system and workplace agreements.

You will advise and guide managers and employees in the interpretation of Council's Enterprise Agreement, internal policies and procedures, along with the broader industrial framework governing employment at Council.

To be successful in this job you will have:

  • Degree qualifications in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations or related area and/or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Strong level of experience in generalist Human Resource Management coupled with the ability to work in a fast paced, customer oriented environment.
  • Strongly developed empathetic approach to people, balanced with a practical approach to achieving timely outcomes.
  • Strongly developed ability to negotiate and coordinate organisational change / job redesign / organisational restructures.
  • Substantial knowledge of contemporary employment legislation and Human Resource practices.
  • Highly developed written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to write correspondence and complex reports.
  • High level influencing and persuasion skills with a strong ability to form effective working relations and relate to people at all levels of the organisation including unions.
  • Demonstrated ability to critically analyse employee relations issues and develop appropriate Human Resource or Industrial Relations related solutions.
  • Demonstrated understanding of job evaluation (such as the Mercer CED system) and principles of job design and organisation structure principles coupled with related implementation skills.
  • Underpinning knowledge of effective change management initiatives and strategies.
