An opportunity currently exists for an experienced and driven Environmental Quality and Safety Coordinator specialising in heavy vehicle driver and plant operator training to join our team.

The Environmental Quality & Safety (EQS) Coordinator is primarily responsible for training heavy vehicle drivers and mobile plant operators at SUEZ South Australia sites and for providing ongoing advice, guidance and support to site managers, supervisors and workers in all areas of EQS. 

The successful candidate will possess experience in work health and safety, training and compliance. They will be able to forge close working relationships with internal sales, workshop, and operations managers as well as subcontractors. This role will require regular travel to regional South Australia.

Primary duties include, but not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate EQS programs as a key member of the South Australian EQS Team
  • Provide training to workers at SUEZ South Australia sites in company procedures and regulatory requirements and verify competency for drivers and operators.
  • Provide advice to managers and supervisors on EQS issues, attend safety meetings, and assist in developing solutions to EQS problems and resolving corrective actions as requested
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance the Integrated Management System (IMS) in accordance with the ISO14001 and AS/NZ4801 accreditation
  • Perform auditing, inspection and compliance assessment 
  • Advise and provide support to sites regarding the implementation, monitoring and review of the EQS IMS and corrective action reporting system
  • Coordinate and conduct risk assessments at South Australian sites
  • Be involved in the investigation of all incidents involving personal injury, vehicle incidents and near miss

Essential skills required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in work health and safety and ability to apply that knowledge to the position
  • Cert 4 Workplace Training and Assessment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Current South Australian drivers licence (heavy vehicle)
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft software applications: Word, Excel & Powerpoint (basic user)
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate initiative
  • High degree of diplomacy and confidentiality

Desirable attributes include:

  • Experience in the South Australian waste management industry or transport industry
  • Understanding of the health and safety issues associated with road transport.
  • Understanding of the health, safety and environmental hazards and risks within the waste industry
