The Advisor – Health & Safety is responsible for facilitating a high standard of Safety Management and compliance to standards. This will involve providing onsite specialist advice, technical support and development of safety policies and procedures across the organisation including incident investigation, hazard management and audit tasks as required. The role will focus on occupational health and safety but will also be involved in rail safe working, health and wellbeing and environmental management.

Reporting to the Senior Advisor Health & Safety, you will be responsible for operating within functional workgroups to actively improve health, wellness, safety and environmental performance within V/Line. You will act as a change agent for HSE risk, developing strategies, monitoring the implementation of change and working with stakeholders to make adjustments to the plan as required. Further to this you will assist with the implementation of V/Line’s safety strategy, and establish frameworks, programs, policies and plans that will achieve these strategic objectives. You will act as a Coach and Mentor, developing employees’ skills to enable implementation of a continuous improvement approach to HSE issues in the workplace as well as provide strategic direction for local areas based on local risk profile. You will also update and ensure HSE documentation is compliant to current legislation, of good quality and communicated to local business.

The successful candidate will desirably hold a Cert IV– Occupational Health and Safety or relevant tertiary qualifications and a Construction Induction card would be preferred. Essential to this role is your proven experience working in Health & Safety ideally within rail or similar high-risk construction/commercial industry and ICAM and auditing skills. Your impeccable stakeholder management skills will see you interact and build relationships across all levels of the organization. Further to this you will have excellent time management skills and a commitment to providing outstanding safety and compliance practices to ensure a safe environment for customers and visitors is maintained.

A requirement of this position is for the successful applicant to travel to regional stations and spend some nights away therefore you must hold a current driver license.

The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience. The selection process may include aptitude assessments, a behavioural event interview, national probity (police) check and medical examination in line with the National Standard for Health Assessment for Rail Safety Workers.
