About the role

Port Authority of New South Wales (Port Authority) are seeking a strong HR Manager with a solid generalist background to lead a small HR and Payroll team. Reporting to the Executive General Manager, WHS & HR, this position is relied upon to deliver high quality HR services to the business, to ensure effective development and implementation of HR strategies, policies and processes and drive improvements in the operational efficiency of the HR team in order to contribute towards a positive organisational culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, design and implement HR strategies and solutions relating to recruitment, learning and development, training, performance management, organisational design, organisational change, workforce planning, payroll and remuneration and benefits.
  • Develop strong partnerships and provide timely and professional counsel to Executive, Management and employees in interpreting HR policy and coaching managers to enhance the performance and capability of their team and to address a range of workforce issues.
  • Act as a strong business partner and contribute to key workforce initiatives, including union consultation, to ensure commitment and cooperation in achieving business and HR strategies and programs.
  • Drive employee engagement and retention initiatives, encompassing effective culture and communication strategies, leadership, team development and workforce metrics.
  • Undertake recruitment and selection activities.
  • Drive diversity and inclusion initiatives, including the building of a traineeship and cadetship program.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • A degree in HR Management or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership of an HR function with experience in (or overseeing) Recruitment, L&D, Payroll, Policies, Rem & Ben, Organisational Development and Employee Relations.
  • Ability to interpret HR Policy and application industrial legislation to ensure advise is compliant and within scope of HR and industrial instruments.
  • Strong people/relationship building skills, including experience in providing direction and advice to managers and employees, negotiating desired outcomes with unions and holding service providers accountable to the timely and accurate delivery of products and services.
  • Strong written and oral communication, with a track-record of operating with discretion and with respect for confidentiality.
