Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) is a team in Workplace Services, People and Culture. The team provides process, systems and services to support the Department of Justice and Regulation (the department) to meet its responsibilities under Health and Safety Laws (Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, Dangerous Goods Act 1985 and Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013).

About the role

The Safety Improvement Advisor's primary responsibility is to coordinate the delivery of occupational health and safety (OHS) improvements to Youth Justice (YJ) systems of work including; site inductions visitor processing, contractor inductions, contract management programs and others as required, to acquit recommendations from a recent audit of the management of YJ OHS.

This role requires someone that will coordinate and assist with the development of revised procedures, processes and systems of work as well as deliver train and advice to YJ custodial services and business units on changes to business processes and procedures that are aligned with the department's OHS management system.

The role will be based in the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct, however at times may be required to work from the Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct and Melbourne CBD.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will be required to demonstrate:

  • the ability to critically analyse complex OHS processes and procedures and recommend process, people and technology improvements
  • risk management to ensure that audit action items are acquitted and positive outcomes are achieved and demonstrable across the department
  • experience establishing relationships with stakeholders, developing effective stakeholder-oriented responses, and assessing, developing and negotiating innovative solutions to complex issues.

A certificate IV in workplace training and assessment would be highly desirable.
