About the business

Transit Systems is a progressive and dynamic, Australian owned, multi-national public transport company. 

We are excited to be operating Region 6 bus services across Sydney's Inner West from 1 July 2018 and these services will be delivered from our Burwood, Kingsgrove, Leichhardt and Tempe depots.

We currently deliver high performing bus services in Region 3 of Sydney's Metropolitan Bus Services Contract network, covering Liverpool, Fairfield and Holroyd areas.

About the role

Provide timely and effective advice and support to managers and staff, in all business units, on all matters related to Health Safety Environment and Quality to ensure compliance with relevant Federal and State legislation and applicable standards. 

Assist staff to develop and maintain Health Safety Environment and Quality work practices.

Implement, monitor and review, for effectiveness, Health Safety Environment and Quality Systems, activities and programs through an integrated management system across all business units to ensure compliance with AS/NZS 4801, AS/NZS ISO14001 and AS/NZS ISO 9001.

Assist in the development of effective Health Safety Environment and Quality policies, strategies, procedures, instructions and relevant action plans.

Participate in NSW Health Safety Environment and Quality committee, toolbox and other associated meetings.

Undertake, in conjunction with other relevant staff, NSW site Health Safety and Environment inspections.

Undertake complex risk assessments, provide advice and prepare reports for the control of HSEQ and workplace environmental hazards.

Conduct accident/incident investigations in relation to Health Safety and Environment issues and produce timely reports.

Promote Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality initiatives across all business units.

Assist with internal audits and assist with third party audits on the Integrated Management System comprising Health Safety Environment and Quality and prepare associated reports, as required, for all business units.

Monitor and report on the effectiveness of corrective actions taken in response to issued non-conformances by a third party or from the internal auditing process.

Gather, investigate and evaluate information that will address inadequacies concerning Health Safety Environment and Quality matters within the Integrated Management System for all business units.

Conduct hazard identification, risk assessment and control analysis of activities relating to Health and Safety within the NSW business.

Skills and experience

Knowledge of the requirements of WHS in New South Wales, including Codes of Practice, Australian Standards and Guidelines.

The proven ability to introduce and maintain effective Health Safety Environment and Quality policies, procedures and strategies in a workplace.

A comprehensive understanding of both Standards - AS/NZS 4801Occupational Health and Safety Management System and AS/NZS ISO14001Environmental Management Systems.

Demonstrated capability in risk assessment and facilitating the development of safe work procedures and incident response.

Demonstrated ability to conduct workplace inspections.

Experience in conducting accident and incident investigations and preparing relevant reports.

An understanding of Health Safety Environment and Quality auditing processes and experience with internal audits of Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management Systems and Quality Management Systems to ensure compliance with AS/NZS 4801,AS/NZS ISO14001 and AS/NZS ISO 9001.

Ability to conduct training needs analysis and development of training material.

Demonstrated ability to manage the collection of environmental performance data, its reporting, analysis and the development of improvement actions.

Excellent communication, organisational and administrative skills with the ability to communicate with employees and stake holders at all levels.

Well developed and demonstrable presentation and report writing skills.

Competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.

 

HIGHLY DESIRABLE: Qualification in Health Safety Environment and Quality and Asset Management or related fields.
