We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Employee Relations (ER) Advisor to commence a 6-month fixed-term contract  (preferably available to start immediately) to support an extended leave for a current team member.

Reporting to the ER Manager, the role of ER Advisor is critical in enabling the achievement of Kmart business objectives as part of an effective team providing service and advice that is responsive to the needs of the business. Acting as advisor across the broader business, key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Provide timely, accurate and consistent advice on employment and industrial relations matters
  • Maintain up to date knowledge in legislative changes relating to employment, assess and monitor impacts to the business, and develop appropriate strategies in relation to the brand implementation as required
  • Support the development and management of agreement making strategies and processes
  • Establish preferred employment terms and conditions to support line manager understanding and application in line with business strategy
  • Provide key advice in managing; employment contracts, disciplinary actions and long-term ill and injured
  • Represent Kmart in key advocacy roles in various tribunals and provide key support and advice in relation to external Kmart representation
  • Develop effective and influential internal networks across Kmart operational and support areas
  • Liaise within the business on industrial disputation

To be successful in securing this role, you will ideally possess the following skills and experience;

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Industrial Relations, Human Resources, Law or similar discipline
  • Extensive ER experience, including responsibility for a provision of ER support to a major functional area in retail or similar fast paced multi-site environment
  • Experience in dealing with unions and industrial tribunals
  • Strong understanding of Fair Work Act 2009 (and preferably its impacts on the retail environment)
  • Strong experience and understanding in advocacy and employment law
  • Working knowledge of business practices, employee and IR frameworks, relevant industrial awards and legislation
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical or legal information into clear, unambiguous advice
  • Experience and track record in influencing and negotiating with key business decision makers
  • Demonstrated ability to work strongly in a team environment
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to develop strong business relationships with a customer focus and a proven network of external contacts
