Human Resources Manager

About the Organisation

The Girls Academy works within the school system to drive community-led solutions aimed at reducing barriers that prevent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls from completing their education and reaching their full potential. The organisation supports these girls with an intensive face-to-face mentoring and support program delivered through a network of school-based Academies.

The Role

We are currently seeking a service driven HR Manager to join our dynamic team based at our Head Office on a full time basis.   The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer, and provides support to the Chief Operations Officer, while supporting an employee base of 140.

The role will be suitable for someone who has a vested interest in the HR space.  The position provides support to the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer as and when required.

Job tasks and responsibilities

You will be responsible for: 

  • Partnering with the business in Recruitment administration including but not limited to advertising, reference checking and shortlisting

  • Being involved in arranging interviews

  • Provide support for line managers and staff seeking guidance in line with client policies

  • Conduct interviews and sit in on interviews with line managers and supervisors providing coaching, mentoring and feedback
  • Maintain current job descriptions for all roles
  • Make employment offers, prepare and issue employment contracts
  • Revise or update employment letters for existing employees
  • Manage and conduct on-boarding processes and induction programs
  • Manage and track the probationary period for new employees
  • Conduct probation reviews both independently and together with line managers.
  • Assist line managers with operating performance management in terms of KPI setting and review
  • Assist line managers to manage under-performance and disciplinary matters.
  • Assist with development and talent management of employees.
  • Coordinate employment terminations and resignations processes and documentation.
  • Conduct exit interviews and report analysis and trends.
  • Responsible for all HR administration ensuring all company policies, procedures, forms and documents are in line with our Quality system

  • Management of the personnel requisition database including job classifications and remuneration
  • Participating in remunerations reviews and administering remuneration changes
  • Monitor, maintain and update project HR databases, procedures and processes
  • Identify skill gaps, plan and deliver against learning needs and priorities, and work closely with the Implementation and Development Manager on the role out and delivery of training 

  • Travel from time to time as required to assist with the needs of our various operations

  • Other duties as directed that fall within the scope of the position.

Skills and experience

Over 72% of our staff are of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander decent, so cultural sensitivity is required.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • At least five (5) years experience in HR or a similar role

  • A degree, diploma or Cert IV in Human Resources or Business or in lieu of a qualification relevant industry experience

  • Strong knowledge of HR legislation and its application.
  • A strong desire to learn and be developed

  • Strong computer skills in MS Office especially in Excel 

  • Exceptional attention to detail 

  • Candidates with end-to-end recruitment experience will be looked upon favourably.

  • Strong organisational skills, including the ability to multitask and prioritise work  

  • Excellent problem solving skills

  • Cultural sensitivity and an ability to work and communicate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

  • An understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander space

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an excellent phone manner
  • A strong client focus
  • High attention to detail 
  • The ability to take direction when required and work unsupervised
  • A team player

Salary & Packaging:

An attractive Salary Package is available, depending on experience and expertise. As we are a PBI not for profit organisation, salary packaging is available.
