About Us:

Gungahlin Veterinary Hospital is one of Canberra’s largest veterinary hospitals and aims to deliver compassionate, evidence-based veterinary care to the highest level.  It is an accredited ASAV Hospital of Excellence with a team of experienced and highly trained veterinarians and dedicated, qualified support staff.

We pride ourselves on the integrity and work ethic of our team and we are looking for a strong Human Resource Manager to join us on a part time basis.

The main functions of this hands-on role include:

HR Management & WHS:

  • Provide sound professional advice on the full HR Management spectrum
  • Ability to lead, influence, coach, counsel and support staff
  • Experience in coordinating end to end recruitment and selection
  • Be the key point of contact for all WHS matters including Workers Compensation policies and claims.

Payroll, Remuneration & Reward

  • Practical experience in running end-to-end fortnightly and monthly payroll.
  • Practical experience in Award interpretation & associated payroll & tax legislation 
  • Process Payroll tax, Super payments and Single Touch Payroll

 General Management and Administration Management

  • Strong experience and ability to quickly master working with (new) software programs.
  • Office Management experience with strong customer service focus
  • Social Media monitoring and responding to reviews and customer complaints
  • Excellent telephone skills
  • MYOB practical experience is desirable: Creating General journals, basic bookkeeping skills including loading invoices, receiving payments and creating payment files.  All MYOB work is overseen by a bookkeeper and accountant.

Required Qualifications & Skills

In addition to the description above, the successful candidate will also have:

  • Qualification(s) in HR management and at least 5 years’ experience in an HR management role
  • Excellent understanding of workplace relations and employment law
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and emotional intelligence
  • Ability to quickly solve problems and conflict
  • Honesty and integrity

 What we can offer you:

  • The position will be available to start around the first week of October 2018.  The role will become vacant due to our current manager being posted abroad with her family.  Training will be provided alongside the current manager for at least 4 weeks (two fortnightly pay cycles).
  • We offer a part-time role with minimum 22.8 hours per week of flexible working arrangements as we appreciate individual personal and family requirements.
  • Initial fixed-term contract of 12 months, renewable. 6 months’ probation will strictly apply.
  • Remuneration will be based on experience and qualifications in HR management
