Jones Day is seeking a HR Manager to support the Australian offices of Jones Day. This is a full-time role based in the Sydney office.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in the professional services industry with a leading global law firm whilst being supported by the local management team.

Role Summary

The Australian Human Resources Manager coordinates and manages human resources services, systems and activities for the Firm across the Australian offices.

The Manager supports the leadership staff of Australia by providing consistent guidance and support on human resources issues; The Manager reports to the Firm Human Resources Director and Counsel and the Australian Regional Director of Operations and has key stakeholders in the leadership of the four offices.

The successful candidate will be based out of the Firm’s Sydney office; however, the position will require occasional travel to the Firm’s Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth offices.  The Manager is expected to perform all duties with a commitment to providing superior service, producing quality work and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.  Above all, the Manager must fulfill the needs of the Firm in a manner which is consistent with its visions and values.

The duties of this role will include:

  • Managing the Australian offices’ Human Resources operations and projects.
  • Assisting the Firm Human Resources Director and Counsel to provide counsel and guidance to leadership staff regarding laws and regulations and to ensure compliance with those laws and regulations.
  • Assisting the global Department Directors with understanding staffing needs, expectations and team structure locally.
  • Acting as liaison with Human Resources staff in other offices and regions with respect to recruitment and employment matters relating to Firm Department employees.
  • Serving as a mentor and role model for new managers and supervisors.
  • Managing all functions of Graduate, Summer Clerk and Paralegal recruitment.
  • Overseeing the performance of the recruitment-focused HR team members.
  • Working with various Partners, develop the annual learning and development programs across the offices.
  • Managing the national Coaching Programs across the Australian offices.
  • Leading, developing and providing guidance to the Australian HR team.

We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated management, analytical, organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead professional development programs related to Human Resources topics
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities and see projects through completion
  • Ability to meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people in a team setting
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships within the Offices and Firm
  • Strong working knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws and regulations

The ideal candidate will:

  • Related bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience within Human Resources
  • Minimum of 5 years’ managerial experience in a corporate/ professional environment; professional services firm experience preferred
