About the role

As the Workplace Health and Safety Manager you have a unique opportunity to work right across the Nine business. Covering all aspects of Work Health and Safety, you will be responsible for ensuring that Nine always provides a safe work place for our people – from those in the office, to the journalists on the road, to the cameraman in broadcast to our aviation team. With such a wide variety of roles and different types of workspaces in Nine, this role would suit someone who is ready to get their hands dirty and continue to drive a safety culture.
  
You will work with key stakeholders across the business, from Board level to the frontline to ensure appropriate implementation of the safety systems across the business in line with a risk management approach. Key to the success of this role will be the ability to work autonomously while taking a consultative approach with key stakeholders, including employees, managers and the Nine WHS Committee’s and Return to Work Co-ordinator structure.
  
Responsibilities:
  • Educate and coach Nine’s Executive, Managers and Supervisors on their legislative responsibilities and industry best practice.
  • Develop WHS management system elements and strategies in line with the current Australian Standard and best practice.
  • Oversee the operation of the WHS Committee structure within all Nine’s Business units.
  • Liaise with Worker’s Compensation Insurer and Finance department to ensure that appropriate workers compensation coverage is in place across all states.
  • Implement training programs to ensure compliance with relevant WHS laws in each State and Territory.
  • Provide advice and recommendations to senior management on emerging WHS issues to contribute to effective decision making and facilitate the implementation of safe work practices.
  • Provide ongoing development and education to staff, where required, in the application of Nine’s WHS policies, procedures and safe operating guidelines
  • Monitor and track trends in legislative, regulatory and business requirements and communicate to all stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Liaise with statutory bodies and external auditors as required.
  • Facilitate activities for the Nine’s Health and Wellness programme, including Nine’s Flu vaccination programme.
  
Essential experience & skills
  • Tertiary qualifications in WHS or related field.
  • Extensive experience operating as a business partner in a WHS role.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of strategic role of WHS in the business and demonstrated capacity to align actions with Nine’s strategy.
  
Desirable experience & skills
  • Experience in media environment, ideally with exposure to both publishing and television environments
  • Experience in development of WHS metrics and associated reports to be presented at Board and Executive level
