About the Organisation:

Mater Health Services North Queensland Ltd (MHSNQ) is a Catholic Not for Profit Healthcare Organisation serving the community of the North Queensland region for over 70 years.  MHSNQ is founded on the Mercy Tradition and vision of Catherine McAuley living the values of Mercy Spirituality, Compassion, Excellence in Care, Respect and Justice through its mission.

MHSNQ is the region’s largest private healthcare facility operating two fully accredited tertiary hospitals at its Hyde Park and Pimlico campuses.  It is a full tertiary (Level 6) 197 bed referral hospital offering acute medical / surgical services and includes an ICU, CCU and Emergency Department.  It is a training facility of JCU for Medical and Nursing Students. 

MHSNQ is experiencing a period of strong growth and The Board has recently updated its strategic plan and commenced implementing its 10 year Masterplan on the Pimlico Campus.  A significant investment is being made in capital infrastructure projects on the site to support the contemporary Models of Care used at The Mater.  A new 4 storey Clinical Services Building will be commissioned in mid-2020.

About the role:

To support the expansion across the Mater Health Services North Queensland and into the future, you will be pivotal in shaping the newly formed People & Culture Division.  You will bring a contemporary strategic focus to the people & culture division, and be part of driving change to the function and the value it will deliver through sustainable people and culture solutions.

You be an active member of the People & Culture leadership team, commencing at the same time as the Manager, Organisational Development and the Team Leader – Systems, Analytics and Administration.

Working collaboratively with your colleagues and leaders, you will identify, design, develop and implement workforce strategies, initiatives, projects and policy as well as partner most commonly with heads of department to effectively enhance performance and efficiency towards achievement of strategy, through the delivery of a respected and highly valued People & Culture service (including HR and WHS).  The incumbent will ultimately drive improvement in the organisation and employee experience, engagement and performance.

The incumbent provides high level strategic advice and support in all aspects of people and culture matters, including human resources, workplace health and safety, people management, workforce planning, complex employee relations case management, senior and complex recruitment and attraction strategies, change management, organisational development and learning, and ongoing effective and proactive people management coaching.  The incumbent will have a clear organisational and people focus and understanding of operational and strategic issues and challenges to be able to influence and provide managers with effective advice, seeking creative solutions where required.

The Strategies & Initiatives Manager has a high level of business acumen and up to date professional knowledge to support managers achieve their organisational outcomes, including proactively encouraging best practice models, ensuring that managers understand and comply with policies, the Enterprise Agreement and employment legislation to treat employees equitably and consistently and manage risk for the Mater Health Services North Queensland (MHSNQ).
