Detail information about job Editor - Mackay - The Daily Mercury. Terms and conditions vacancy

If you’re looking to step up and lead a high-powered news team, as well as live in the idyllic surrounds of the Great Barrier Reef, then start preparing your application.

The Daily Mercury, based in Mackay in the subtropical beauty of Queensland, needs an ambitious leader to drive growth in its digital audience and continue to maintain and boost a solid print circulation.

But don’t be fooled by the great location, the Daily Mercury is a top performing regional newspaper that has rapidly improved its paid sales in print and digital, as well as being in a region that generates plenty of hard news. You will need to be driven to maintain the momentum of the masthead.

The Daily Mercury is one of News Corp's 18 regional dailies across the country, and the ideal stepping stone for someone wanting to break into leadership ranks.

It has been one of the fastest to move its audience online, and has led the country in the conversion of paying print customers to online.

The masthead is embedded in its community and is still a trusted print source, but has been lifting its digital focus to match its newspaper success. This is NOT a role for a safe pair of hands with a predominantly print background. We want a savvy editor who will follow the digital data to better performance while ensuring the print product remains first class.

We are looking for an Editor who can:

  • Oversee the editorial operations of the brand (print and digital) with a view to sustaining print readership and growing paying digital audiences;
  • Champion local issues and campaign on behalf of the community on topics of mutual interest;
  • Be heavily involved in the local community, setting a positive tone for a community and masthead needing inspired leadership;
  • Lead a team of about 15 editorial staff and empower them to reach their full potential;
  • Be a strong manager of finances in tight times, and a proactive driver of change in a constantly evolving media landscape.
  • Be smart enough to know what drives readership, and what not to waste their time on.

If you have the drive, passion and expertise, we would like to hear from you. Send your CV, with a cover letter, detailing why you are the right person for this role, to:

Neil Melloy, Editorial Director, News Regional Media - [email protected]

Applications close Friday 13 July 2018.
